Members moturkey Posted August 8, 2017 Members Posted August 8, 2017 I'll be driving home from a CO fishing trip in about a month with my kayak in tow, and would like to camp somewhere in Central or Western KS where I can launch and fish for a day. Wilson Lake looks beautiful, and is close to I-70 (though wind appears to be a major issue on that lake... as it likely will be on any body of water there). Anybody familiar with that area that can recommend other lakes / rivers I should consider? I will have had my fill of trout fishing by then and would like to target SMB / LMB. Thanks in advance.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Ive driven over Wilson a lot and it does always look windy. I stopped at Kirwin reservoir once just to kill time and people were slaying crappie off the bank. Lots of 30-50 fish stringers with nice big slabs. Keith Sebelius Resevoir in Norton KS looks good two, stopped by it once and lots of people hammering walleye from shore. I need to start packing a rod when i make work trips out there
Bushbeater Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Don't forget Kanopolis, I hear the hybrid action can be very good.
Members Rocky Posted August 10, 2017 Members Posted August 10, 2017 Scott State Park & Lake is about 40 miles South of Oakley and is a nice spot. Clear water and somewhat protected from the infamous Kansas wind. I have only fished for trout, after the fall-winter stocking began, so I cannot attest to the summer fishing. http://www.kansas.com/sports/outdoors/michael-pearce/article1118251.html https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g39052-d546986-Reviews-Scott_State_Park-Scott_City_Kansas.html
