Members troywaukee Posted October 12, 2017 Author Members Posted October 12, 2017 One week away from heading down. Stocked up on some new jigs, swimbaits and buzz baits. Any updates on how the fishing has been lately? We were thinking of mainly targeting docks based on what I've been hearing, but thought I'd check. On a side note...how has the crappie bite been lately?? We'd like to fry up a few while down there, but haven't seen any crappie reports. Thanks!!
shrapnel Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Crappie have caught on fire with this cold snap in 6'-8' on the docks. Black bass fishing is as bad as I have seen it here. Most guys are lucky to scratch a limit together in a day right now. Headed over to watch the FLW Costa weigh in here in a bit to see how the pro's fared, I'm sure the locals will bring in some 20lb sacks. If I were going out to fish for fun, food or numbers right now I would be targeting white's, just throw a lipless on the bank and burn it back on windblown points.

Will make sure we plan on targeting crappie. Are they hitting throughout the day as well as first thing in the morning? Frustrating to hear that about the bass. Could the lake be turning over? We went last year in October and it was rough as well...maybe we need to change it up to a spring trip!! I'll keep my fingers crossed they pick back up with warmer weather on the way next week. I had awesome luck over the 4th this year, but when we came back in early August the bass fishing was atrocious...
shrapnel Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Turning over, extreme temp fluctuations/weather changes, fish getting absolutely pounded by huge tournaments...pick one. Just watched the first 45 min of the FLW Costa weigh in which confirmed what I said earlier. Very few limits coming in, a lot of 1, 2, 3 fish bags. Dion Hibdon only had 4 fish. Leader was at 19lbs, 2nd was 17 when I left and it dropped off after that. I think 13lbs was top 10 but several boats had not weighed yet. The crappie bite has been great all day, and even better at night for me.
TroutRinger Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Curious how this warm front will affect things. I'll be in the Tan-Tar-A area this weekend and would be down for a strong crappie bite or LMB rebound. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." Members Yakalong Posted October 13, 2017 Members Posted October 13, 2017 I've been down the past couple weekends, backs of coves are loaded with shad but not catching a lot of bass. Crappie off the docks has been good. So this weekend I won't waste my time looking for bass and just go after the crappie.
