It would all be C&R for me. I still have catching a flathead on rod and reel on my bucket list. Ham wants to do this as well. I could hook y'all up. I eat flatheads that's what I catch to eat here at home but there 2-5 pounders Although i let big ones like that go now. I have ate a 40 pounder before. Out of the St Francis down here it was tasty When I was younger and didn't think about these things and the impact it has (big cats take a LONG time to grow, they are not exactly easily replaceable) I kept and ate a number of 10+# pound cats...and well, unless your definition of tasty is "mushy, gamey, and generally unpleasant" we've had different experiences. Now I still love me some 2-3 pound channel cats. Nice firm meat, as good eating as any warm water fish I'm aware of. But in my experience taste starts to nosedive around 5-6 pounds.
SpoonDog Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Something I'd maybe do once, I just can't get the mental image of grabbing onto something not-catfish...turtle, beaver...outta my head. It's cool that they tag them, it'd be interesting to see how frequently they recapture the big ones and whether the same fish are using the same spots.

They said this year they had a 20 percent recatch rate. I was was the same way bout doing it once. But I'd do it again now I think There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
