Gavin Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 We ate walleye, pike, and a few smallmouth for shore lunch one day up in Ontario two weeks ago. Pike was a little sweeter, but all about the same. Ontario''s limits are fairly restrictive, people usd to haul tons of fish back from Canada but that has changed for the most part and fisheries have rebounded. As good now as it ever was.

I've never heard of one over 10 pounds being caught on the Meramec, but plenty of 15-18 pounders have been caught on the Black and Current. I'll keep saying this...those fish have the potential to grow to world record size, but it'll never happen as long as practically everybody who fishes for them or just catches one accidentally keeps it to eat. I know they are good eating, but in my opinion, crappie and other members of the sunfish family (even small bass) are as good or better. I started a crusade to get my fishing buddies to release big walleye way back in the days when I fished for them a lot, but never succeeded even with guys who had a decent conservation ethic. Just seems like killing every legal walleye you catch is automatic in the Ozarks. Thats a total bummer.
