They do work for many different species, but they are far from snag free. Expect to loose every one you throw. Really !

Thanks Dan, a friend I fished KS lakes with years ago and another guy I recently met in BP both commented similarly about snagging bottom - that I should avoid drift "ticking" them off bottom over uneven structure. Both recommended the shiver minnow in particular for jigging thru shad balls for suspended walleyes in deeper water after the lake turns. I was wondering though if anybody's had success with jigging them year-round for eyes.

I haven't picked you out yet on the lake, but I watch for your posts so keep em coming.

Thanks, I'll do just that. I picked up some mooneye jigs earlier this week so I'll get some gulp minnows and try them next trip out.

Dan is right on the jigging raps; you can lose them fast and they are expensive.  I never fish them without a lure retriever on board.  If they are hung on the rocks I get them back 90% of the time, and if on wood 75-80%.  Some days I have saved 8 of 8 snags.  Big thing though, is you have confidence to fish places where you just couldn't afford to otherwise.  Applies to any jigging lure.  I've had on and off luck with them at stockton.  Big issue is probably where I have fished them in the wrong place.  Other times they outfish everything else I'm doing.  You also catch other stuff on them, including nice crappies.

Thanks Oberst, of all the stuff in my boat, a lure retriever is that one thing I don't have in the boat and need to get, especially considering all the rigs I've lost on a couple mid-lake points this summer. I'll search the forum's archives for recommended retrievers.

Mine has paid for itself 2 or 3 times now with all the Flicker shads that it has saved.

Seems to work better if you send it down the line with the rope eyelet away from you.
