moguy1973 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I had the day off today so I loaded up the boat and headed down to Council Bluffs Lake. First of all, what a gorgeous body of water. 10-12' visibility everywhere, lots of standing timber, and lots of coontail. If it only fished as well as it looked. I did catch about 8 small bass but none bigger than 10" long. Tough lake this time of year I guess. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
jdmidwest Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 We debated going there on Sunday. We fished a lake on Terre Du Lac on Sat. evening after rain passed for a few hours and did alright. But decided on Lake of the Ozarks and went elsewhere. Something passed thru that made fishing tough on Sunday, probably lingered into today. Clear water did not help. I have never caught any huge bass on Council Bluff. But there are a good number of average ones there. The Enough end has always been my favorite and the rock ledge along the arm where the outflow thing is. moguy1973 Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 I didn't make it down the Enough arm. Started running out of time and headed up the dam bank and then over towards the beach. I was expecting to see a more rocky bottom/shore more like the highlands lakes in SW MO and wasn't expecting as much coontail. Coontail is my kryptonite and I seem to never have the right baits to fish it. Kincaid is another with a large amount of coontail and I have trouble over there too. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
jdmidwest Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Tube jigs work fairly well in coontail. They tend to shed weeds. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
moguy1973 Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 That's what caught a few on. Other's were on cranks out away from the weeds and in the trees. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Brian Jones Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Tough lake to fish. Probably been close to 15 years since I've fished it. Was heading back from there one day after a sub par trip and it dawned on me that I could be at about three or four different accesses on the Meramec as quickly as I could get to Council Bluff. Always done the best there on cloudy days. Used to like to throw wacky rigged centipedes. Have a buddy that loves throwing a frog out there and has done fairly well with it. cwc87 1
David Unnerstall Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 If you notice the ramps are all busy at dusk. The locals know fishing is best at low light periods. I recall there being red-ears in there.
