I'm headed to Ontario for a fly-in in late May and plan to do some lake trout fishing along with walleye, pike, and bass.  I've never taken electronics with me before, but I'm debating on taking an old Eagle b/w depth finder with me or if I should go ahead and take my Helix 7 SI.  I have access to a  good portable & adjustable transom mounting bracket for whichever one I bring.  Any thoughts?

I made one from an old transom mounted trolling motor bracket. Kind of a bulky deal but you can cut off what you don't need. Put a small aluminum angle on the bottom and mounted transducer to that. Tape the wire up the shaft. Fully adjustable up and down plus you can tip it out of the water if needed. It was a minnkota so plastic shaft easy to drill and cut. Only thing is it sits a couple inches off the back of the boat and depending on boat and how fast you go there will be some spray while running. Pretty cheap investment if you can find a Junker trolling motor. Good luck,

Will you have a generator to charge the batteries? If so, I would bring your Helix. You will need it for the Lakers...they hang really deep. Marked them in 90' of water on Lake Nym last fall.
