At present it would be a nerve racking chore to get as far as 39 on Sons and 160 on Turnback. When I was there Thursday water temp on the main lake was 36 and the majority of shad were hanging in 55' and deeper water.

I would not even try to get to either one of those places runing.  I'd be so puckered up that I'd have a hole in the seat cover before I even got half way to either one, (the trees in Sons and the skinny water at the zig zag in Turnback).

There are a lot of spots up the rivers that I don't run because the channel is narrow.

Put in at CC and go up Turnback. Good fishing and not too difficult. Walleye followed by the whites later. Just take it easy. If you see some older guys taking it slow follow them. What kind of boat do you have? Have not been past the 160 bridge in several years, but used to be no problem to keep going even though it starts getting tight.

Bass tracker. Looking more for bass than walleye and whites. I am just not familiar with the lake much and don't want to hit anything.

Thanks mick. I always stop at that  first big turn to the east after the T where Sac and turn back meet. Running a 19 foot aluminum Tracker. I think I'll use your advise and slowly venture a little farther.

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???B)

If you are in search of black bass there isn't much need to get up into Turnback or any creek for that matter at Stockton imo

At some point you will need to switch over to the trolling motor as even idling with the big motor may be too risky until you get comfortable with where the hazards are. Also helps if you have someone knelt on the front deck looking for stumps. Someone mentioned the zig zag in Turnback. I used to go through there will the trolling motor and then back to idle speed past the 160 bridge
