ollie Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Anyone have any? I have a buddy that just bought a house in Bernice and is only a half mile away from the lake. We are going to the heated dock and try for some slabs next week. Was wondering if the crappie had started to move into shallower water yet. ollie Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 Got down to Indian Hills this past Friday and did some heated dock crappie fishing. Was slow to say the least. Although within 15 minutes I busted a 12"er and another guy sitting across from us nailed a nice one too. That was about all of it for another hour or so. The stranger across from us landed a few short ones, but no other keepers. I landed another 2 with only one of those going over 10". Caught both of mine on a jigs I tie with some bubble gum spray on them. Must have been the spray! Ended up fishing until about 9:00 since the place started to get crowded with about a dozen people in there. wily Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Crappie docks are fun...but it depends on the crowd...Indian hills is great with the cafe but it gets smoky. we haven't been this year as much as we did last year. I like blue bluff probably the best...I hope the few public docks on grand stay open...but I'm afraid they will go the way of the dodo bird. We usually bring a catfish rod and fish it outside...the kids always seem to catch shad so we use that for bait. The rod tips and roof sure take a beating when I'm down there...I started using an ice fishing rod last year...pretty fun. And I didn't piss off the neighbors so much ollie 1
ollie Posted February 23, 2018 Author Posted February 23, 2018 I remember as a kid there used to be lots of heated crappie docks to fish at. Ice Box, Four Seasons, Ponderosa, and others I can't remember at this time! We would always go down there and I would get bored within about 30 minutes or so. lol Unless the fish were biting and then I was ok like any other kid I suppose. I remember my uncle always tied a double jig and my dad only used minnows. Normally my uncle would out fish us with that set-up. wily Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Ya....ice box went private a couple years ago....ponderous is still there and good at times. It is a great way to spend a cold day with your kids...I hope the few remaining stay open...my brother caught a 26lb buffalo in one once when we were kids...you talk about pandemonium.
