Sam Potter
Today was one of those days I wait for..River is up, cloudy. Didn't get the rain I expected, but it didn't matter..fishing was very good. I saw an Osprey, a Turkey, a Mink, a pair of Prothonotary Warblers and I caught some nice fish. The first one was a very Fat 18 inch rainbow, I also caught a couple of 17 inch rainbows and several 14-15 rainbows today. I caught 6 browns, including a 20" female. There was also an 18, 2 15s, a 14 and a 12 incher from last years stock. I used one fly for all of my fish today, (actually 3, but they were all the same). I won't tell you what it is, but my shoulder is very sore..(a friend of mine compares it to throwing a sack of kittens). You veterans will know what I am talking about. The fishing was excellent today. Every fish I caught, all 23 of them, have been eating extremely well. The Upper River is in Excellent condition right now. It is up and still pushing pretty good, because the spring is kicking out some serious flow. A couple of days ago I said it would be down to normal by Tuesday, but after today I would have to say it will take a little longer than that to get back down to normal. Maybe by the end of the week or Saturday or Sunday. The water color is still milky, and will continue to stay that way as long as the spring continues to spit it out. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 18, 2007 Root Admin Share Posted April 18, 2007 Would that be the tungsten, heavy, nymph, thing, fly Brian Sloss is always taking about? Sorry, I didn't go back and look at old reports to see the official name. Now Sam, you're just playing with us aren't you. You would give us a glowing fishing report like this one without telling us what the fly was that caught the fish, would you? That's not the Sam Potter we all have learned to love and admire. Sam Potter
Lilly, No it is not Brian's fly. I have my reasons for not telling you...I have a very good client coming up from KY today, and I don't want those fish seeing too many of my flies before he gets here...The stream is small at the upper end and limited to the amount of pressure it is already getting..I hope you understand. Al I know that you know what it is...a good friend of ours came up with the term. And YES I am going to the splash. Got to go,,,,fish to catch "A bad day fishing is still a Great Day"

Al Agnew
Nah...it's a size 20 Pheasant tail with a half-ounce of lead to keep it down. You drag it along the bottom. The lead attracts the trout's attention, then it finds the fly. The kitten reference comes from the fact that underwater it looks like you're dragging a kitty toy, and the trout are acting like cats going after it. 3wt
Now that the weekend's over, my money's on olive bunny leech, size 4. Talk about a good way to stir up a hornet's nest. Just tell people you've caught 20+ fish on a mystery fly. I hope your client did well. Maybe next time just don't post a report until you're ready to disclose how you caught 'em...keep these jokers from launching an all out assault on probalby about a mile or river space just to spite you. And, come on guys. Is this worth being jerks about? Sam has given more than his fair share of trade secrets in the past. He has personally responded to my emails and disclosed what's hatching on the river before I've taken trips, even telling me how to tie up flies to match.
