Stump bumper Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 My neighbor said someone posted "On Facebook" they caught a 40lb striper on Beaver last week. I have no idea what Beaver Lake postings he tracks. Did anyone else see this posting or hear of a 40lber caught last week? How about some details, I could use the good news.
Members Alumacraft190 Posted April 2, 2018 Members Posted April 2, 2018 Im afraid thats only half true Stump. A picture did get posted last week of a 40 lb fish but it was a bit of a random post. The background made it clear it wasnt a recent catch and the OP confirmed the catch was from Fall 2017 and not recent. No confirmation on location though. We can only hope the size like that is still around in abundance but I’m becoming less confident by the year in my trips.
J-Doc Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I think the recent outbreak of striper fever is dying off. It takes many years for a fish to reach that size and people are too quick to pull a 30lb fish on board and keep it vs release. I am guilty myself as I love striper. Knowing how much recent activity flared up on the seemingly underfished species (other than guide services), I think the pressure has impacted the supply a bit. Hundreds of anglers all chasing a relatively limited land-locked species is bound to impact it eventually. Especially when there cannot be thousands or even hundreds of 40lb class fish in the lake. A few dozen or so maybe? Statistically I dont see that being possible to be more than a few dozen bigger fish of old age even in a lake as big as we fish. Maybe a hundred or so.... Members Okie4Life Posted April 3, 2018 Members Posted April 3, 2018 The photo was on Beaver Lake Arkansas Fishing Reports. User said is was last fall.
Stump bumper Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 Really thin for a 40lb fish, must have been really long. Might have been a 50lb fish in the spring if it had not got caught.
J-Doc Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 If that fish is over 27lbs, I'll eat my own striper bait. Page is plagued with exaggerated catches. Lance34 and bluebasser86 2 Need marine repair? Lance34 Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 I seen this one posted on a Beaver Report page over the weekend. Said it was caught last week. No weight stated.
bluebasser86 Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Second fish has a better chance of weighing 40 than the one from Facebook.
