Hey fella's,

I'm moving to west plains soon from Indianapolis IN.My wife took a new job there . She's there already I'm comming with the kids as soon as school lets out. I fish the creeks and rivers of central Indiana for smallmouth. (19" smallmouth in the middle of downtown Indanapolis!!!)I fly fish and spin fish both depending on conditions. I would like to learn more about Trout fishing, I haven't fished for trout much so I have a grasp on the basics but could use some tutoring. I also would apreciate any information on where to fish for smallies. See you mid June.

Urban Angler.

P.S. I guess I'll have to come up with a new screen name.

Indy to West Plains? Can you say "CULTURE SHOCK!!?"

For sure you will be around some fine trout fishing. Be sure to check in with Brian Wise who is not far from WP and there are a few others on here in the area. You'll want to take at least one trip down the road about half hour to Mammoth Spring, AR and check out the Spring River.

My wife use to be a nurse at the hospital in WP. I got my tatoo in WP. Porter Wagoner is from WP... What more can you ask for in a town?

(BTW... Don't ask anyone in WP what they think of Porter Wagoner... )

Most people concentrate on the trout fishing in the Spring river but Terry is on the mark. There are some HUGE Smallies ( and Spots & Largemouth!) in the Spring. The lower river below the trout water is almost completely ignored except by locals who are 'in the know'. I had a report of a Tiger-Muskie today that the guide telling me about it thought might be a world record. Looks like I may yet get to exercise that telephone pole I built for big fish! CC

Hey welcome to southern Mo. West Plains has many surrounding fishing opportunities. A good friend of my is Conservation Agent (Gerald) that has family there. He can put or point you in right direction. However, get your licenses 'cause he will check ya! Good Luck and tight lines.

I got my licence when I was there 3 weeks ago the year long out of state was cheaper than the week long. I couldn't get a local licence because I don't have an address yet.

West Plains aint much to write home about, even when compared to a town as lame as Indianapolis!

Your gonna be stuck in the deep dark heart of the Ozarks, but youll fit in pretty well if you start dressing the entire family in Mossy Oak Camo and learn to talk like that feller that nobody can understand on King of the Hill. Good fishing nearby though.

After reading that, nothing would surprize me. I have no idea what any of that means and I'm glad I don't.

SIO3.

BTW if it wasn't for WP I'd have to wait and stop in Gamaliel, my mom's family's home town. I don't know what they're talking about half the time either.
