Members Fox Statler Posted January 17, 2006 Members Posted January 17, 2006 Around here we mostly catch Longeared sunfish. They rarely get over 6 inches. The rivers and lakes are full of them. I think I'm moving to Missouri when I retire. I may move sooner. Fishin' What They See, Fox Statler

Pic of the new world record Redear caught in South Carolina 1998 5lb 7.5oz MoCarp: We need to hookup and go fishing sometime. I would like to know more about Lamar Lake and the Redear fishing there. I also plan to go to Bushwhacker this year. I havent been there for years but, understand they have been trying to establish that lake for good Bluegill/Redear fishing. Besides I could show you a couple of places with some really big carp. I just know there has to be a new Missouri record Redear out there somwhere. Now if I can jest find im'. Bud I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
MoCarp Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Bud, we will get together sometime this spring--as far as bushwacker--I have not fished it for several years--it used to have big BlueGills and some huge Hybrid sunfish--never remember catching red ears there if I had to go south--Merrits Mill pond IN FLORIDA----its awsome used to fish there as a kid,... 2 pounders are common--I think the old record was from there--its managed for trophy redears--I think they must be 14 " before legal --place to stay is at Arrowhead campground MONKEYS? what monkeys?
gonefishin Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 I would sure like to give them a shot down there sometime. That would be a blast. In the meantime I will keep hunting that big redear here in MO. I haven't fished Bush Whacker for years. Like you say there used to be a lot of gills in there; still are from what I hear. I have also heard it has some good Redear populations.... I dont know but, am willing to give it a shot sometime. I would rather be fishin'. Members Pete Posted January 19, 2006 Members Posted January 19, 2006 I lived the first 17 years of my life less than a half mile from Lamar Lake, and I do not remember ever catching a redear back then, just some big bluegill and crappie. Looks like I need to get back home and do some fishing this spring at Bushwacker and Lamar
MoCarp Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I never caught any red ears in Lamar until around 93-- the fishing is not as good for numbers of bluegills as it was in the 80's because of more pressure--but you catch more BIG bluegill I think they have a seven inch size limit on panfish and a bag limit of 10 or 15 and that seems to be working Mo MONKEYS? what monkeys?
gonefishin Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Anyone on this forum ever fish at Council Bluff Lake? I hear the Redear fishing is really good there. Bud I would rather be fishin'.
