fly2fish Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Did this guy show up Saturday? The snake not the fisherman. This is a pic of a 4+ foot snake that was at outlet 2 weekend before last. This is a co-worker of mine, he said the snake came from the outflow of outlet 2, he tried to keep it at flyrod length but it was to big. The head is close to his foot, after he kicked it it went for his son whose hand is just at the left side of the picture. The snake went into the rocks between the outlet and the overhanging tree. I was just there the weekend before and sat on one of those rocks to take a break..at night! Anyone seen him since? Or better yet got rid of it.
Rusty Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Thats no snake, he's doing the "Giant Taneycomo Squid" shuffle. hahahaha
motroutbum Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 I hope y'all wouldnt kill it. As a nature lover, outdoorsman, and biologist, If you leave it alone it wont bother you. they wont bite unless provoked. There are two types of people. Terry Beeson Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 What kind of snake was it? I would be careful kicking a cottonmouth... they "kick" back sometimes... And those fangs make big holes in your waders... motroutbum Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 It was probably a northern water snake or a black snake. neither one would bite you. Just because it was swimming toward you doesnt mean that it was going to attack. It was probably just looking to find a place to get out of the water, and with all the anglers that fish around outlet 2, it is sure hard to find a place without any people. Members wildminnow Posted May 22, 2007 Members Posted May 22, 2007 oh yes Im sure we can put a postive ID on that snake without being there I would kill that thing in an instant and not feel bad about harming the environment please
motroutbum Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 im not talking about harming the environment. Im talking about IGNORANCE among people that want to kill snakes. I used to hate them as well, but since I took herpetology, I've decided to do my masters work on snakes. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Ham Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 It still surprizes me how many people want to kill every snake they see. Just leave the snake alone. Snakes are no more evil than a turtle or a lizard and pose no more risk to people than a turtle or lizard if left alone. I figure God put snakes here for a reason and I doubt that reason was to be killed by people too afraid and ignorant to leave them alone. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future.
