Wayne SW/MO Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I think the key word is cumulative, in other words if people become "A little" more conservative about fuel consumption, the cumulative effect can be meaningful. Not everyone can use the same tactics. I can avoid maintaining my speed on hills, which is almost constantly for me, run 65 on 65, rather than 70, up and down the grades. On the other hand someone in Springfield or KC or STL have other possibilities. I think the bigger fear has to be the side effects, such as, does anyone want the government to start dictating what constitutes too much profit? Most traveling benefits a large number of low income people, these aren't people that can cut back, but people that have to go public assistance. The effects can be enormous in some areas. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Terry Beeson Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Yep, GF... butt/u/me... And the ol' statistician's proverb states that "tortured data will confess anything..." As for swallowing a calculator, well, I have dealt with statistics for 25 years. I could go into detail about the outside factors that could have skewed the results of the test having been only one vehicle and one trial. Then we could discuss degrees of freedom, ANOVAs, and the probablility that the results do confirm there is a difference or if it could actually be CHEAPER to run the AC. But that gets into too much detail and would take more time. But with things slowing down here at work, I might just have that time in the near future... Hmmmm... actually hurt vs. just annoyed... I would say it's a 20/80 split... Me and MrDucky are the only ones really hurting... (more tortured data... ) The average driver probably uses about 70 gallons a month. With that in mind, again with LOTS of assumptions, gas prices are about 32.6 cents higher than this time last year, meaning the average driver is spending about $23 a month more on gas this month this year. The really funny statistic is the fact that crude is actually CHEAPER right now than it was a year ago... About $3 a barrel cheaper... gonefishin Posted May 25, 2007 Author Posted May 25, 2007 I wonder what fair price for gas should actually be. I have seen the warped version of adjusting for inflation where prices from the late 70's and early 80s was used as a starting point. The problem with that is the starting prices were inflated so it doesn't reflect an accurate picture. I wonder what they should be if we were to use 1987 prices as a starting point and adjusting for inflation to the current date. I would rather be fishin'. Chief Grey Bear Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Good discussion, Chief. I'm glad you posted this. And apologize for any grief I may have caused. Unintentional, I assure you... Good grief, all I was try to point out was that according to the test that I heard of on the radio was that there was not huge difference in milage vs. the two options. Then all of the sudden the scientist start popping out from everywhere! LOL!!!!! Now those numbers I gave you? I have no freaking idea if they are correct. But I think they are some where in the neighborhood. Not to worry though Terry, I slept just fine last night. I think you did have an effect on my fishing today. I only got two at Jolly Mill today. trout fanatic Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Okay, all these stats are makin me dizzy but I think I got it figgered out. Driving around with your windows down may have an adverse effect on your fishing success. Did I get that right??

You gotta drive around with your windows down to improve your fishing success. You gotta drive around with the windows down so you can gather up bugs to use for bait. I would rather be fishin'. Rusty Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Gas is as cheap as you want to make it. I am going to go out and do a drive off in Ducky's neighborhood. Should save me enough to grill ribeye's this weekend. I am going to tell you what I look like so it will make it easy on you to find me. I am man hear me roar. I drive a Dodge with a Hemi. I have long strawberry flowing colored hair and a beard and usaully wear a OAF cap. Catch me if you can?
Terry Beeson Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 No, no,no. You still got it wrong. You gotta drive around with your windows down to improve your fishing success. You gotta drive around with the windows down so you can gather up bugs to use for bait. No, no, no, no, NO!!!... It's so you can SMELL the fish and find where they are hanging out... The bugs in your teeth are just icing on the cake... Well, Rusty... A drive OFF is better than a drive BY... But I think maybe Ducky is now packin' heat, so I would be careful about forgetting to pay...
