Skeeter ZX190 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 We caught some small bass today, 5 to 8 inches, both largemouth and smallmouth. Question 1. Does anybody know if these are last years hatch or this year? Question 2. I noticed A LOT of trees that the leaves have turned brown. At first I thought it was just fall foliage, but it seems way to early for that. Most of these trees are at about the same elevation in relation to the bank. Did the high water this summer kill these trees?
Dutch Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I think the little ones are this year’s and the bigger are last year’s. Most of the dead trees that I have been seeing are oak. I guess they couldn’t stand that much water for that long. straw hat 1

Dutch Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 It looks like there may be thousands lake wide. Too bad they aren’t accessible. I would like to have about 20 cords of it in my barn. So where do you think the good fish have gone to? I camped and fished last week. I fished from above High Point to Mutton Creek. I could only find fish on big rocks with wind. I couldn’t find any deep fish any where. Just a few fish were solid keepers. Every day I changed areas but the fish kept getting smaller. The last time I went 1 out of 20 would measure. I am taking a break for a while and getting some overdue work done on the house and down at the farm. It seems that freefallin and Steve McBasser are on to some good fish.
Walcrabass Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 Skeeter, The Oak trees get whacked pretty good when the water stays up too long. They will make good " debris" in the water as they fall apart. Hopefully when they fall over from wind or no living root system to hold them up anymore they will end up in the lake. Nothing better than a laydown with the roots at the bank and the trunk and top in the water........... you get hung up less on those kind !!!!!! Walcrabass

Walcrabass Sadly I have not seen many that will make it to the water when they fall.
