Members rzbker Posted July 17, 2020 Members Posted July 17, 2020 Thanks Lance, Kinda what I figured on spotting structure. I do like using a slip bobber with minnows rather than trolling. Will adjust depth accordingly. Going to have to wait on the side scope. Just put a new 50 hpTohatsu on the ol' boat. That took all my stash cash. FYI - Not much traffic on lake this morning, few striper fishermen out. I have a great view of the public ramp from my deck. Lance34 1
Quillback Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 What part of the lake do you see from your deck? Just curious because it would be nice to have someone to contact about lake conditions sometimes, especially after flooding rains. There's definitely crappie in the Indian creek arm. Not a lot of them, but they are there.
Members rzbker Posted July 17, 2020 Members Posted July 17, 2020 I overlook what they call fish trap hollow. It is the South Lost Bridge area and a large part of the lake. I am north of marker 4. I am not sure where the marker is for 3, but it is this area.

Members rzbker Posted July 17, 2020 Members Posted July 17, 2020 Quill, I retired early at the perfect time up here before the virus hit. I was gifted a 74 ranger that had been sitting for 5 years. Gave me something to do in the basement. I just finished restoring it a got it on the water and am planning on spending a lot of time in the area. Crappie and Walleye is what I'm going to be gunning for. Big Clifty area is actually closer from where I put in and once I make a couple of run throughs, I had thought about going up Indian Creek. Can give you lake conditions anytime, I never miss the sunrise.

Members Greg B. Posted July 18, 2020 Members Posted July 18, 2020 Rzbker, welcome to the forum. I’m still kinda new on the forum too. Years ago When I was a kid I knew a man who lived near there. In the summer the water was crystal clear and we would go snorkeling around his dock. When we hit standing timber we could usually find a few crappie, but they might be deep. We’d then go back with a boat, slip corks, and minnows. Lotsa fun for a kid back in those days. I suppose the takeaway is to fish the standing timber. I fish the south end so I’m sorry I can’t be more help
Members rzbker Posted July 18, 2020 Members Posted July 18, 2020 Thanks Greg, For now I am enjoying watching all the idiots on jet skis......Come on Labor Day! Will keep you posted on what I find. WPS! Lance34 1
Members Greg B. Posted July 18, 2020 Members Posted July 18, 2020 Great time of year to run your electronics and learn the lake for sure. I moved to the south end 3 years ago but really didn’t get time to fish until this year due to building our home and work. The main reason I went with long line trolling for crappie this year is it allows me to cover water and watch my electronics. And sometimes I even get to catch fish. Since February I’ve been covering water at 1.2 mph a little at a time. I’ve found drop offs, stumps, brush piles, and a few fish here and there. There’s a 3-4 mile stretch of the White River I now know pretty well. I can now hit a spot and move to the next spot with at least some confidence in the spots. I’ve made that my goal this year. I think that’s what it takes. Stay out there covering water. The crappie and Walleye will follow if you put in the work. Beaver isn’t as easy for me to learn as some other lakes I’ve fished but I can be on the water in 10 minutes so I’m gonna keep trying to learn it. Lance34 1
Members EzFishN Posted July 20, 2020 Members Posted July 20, 2020 Navionics maps has a few but I think they pull data from AFGC. None the less crappie seem to be hit or miss when I try as well. I think it's just the Beaver; it's like a giant aquarium of fishing traveling extravaganza. One minute they could be by the dam, or in the Clifities, next by 12 bridge, then back to the river and south. I think communication is the key, fish seem to swim all over the place in this lake. From stripers, crappie, blue gill, to everything other than catfish unless it's blues. I start looking at when they pull power and definitely plays a role in fish activity, and where I fish. We had a few stripers by the dam when they were pulling power again; the other two weekends I went when they weren't pulling, and got skunked. If heavy rains in the spring, Indian Creek and Ford's Creek feed a lot of water into the North Area of the lake, regardless of power off or on, but once they dry up, look further south. If no power being pulled, and the lake is low, go to the river highway 12 area was more oxygen is going to be in the water coming from the white river. It's still 200' deep by the JBHunt Island just west of rocky branch; so I don't buy the more oxygen in deep water theory, for stripers at least being at the dam. Even though the water is clear towards the dam, I think it gets stagnant until the boats get out and stir the water up later in the day; which by then the bite is over. I'm always after the GREEN Water. Algae/Plants/Oxygen/Moving Water = Bait Fish, Craws, leaches, Bait = Bigger Fish
