It is common, I think to call the larvae of Dobson flies and fish flies all hellgrammites. I also think the fish flies are more widespread than you think throughout the interior highlands, I believe I read some research about five species of them in the Ozark region. I was really disappointed by mdc break down of the bug. Didn't give any substantive information at all.

Didn't give any substantive information at all. Also serricornis is what they are. Usually common in Michigan and Wisconsin. Mdc said nothing about them. I even emailed them to no avail. Thanks for all the info and discussion everyone thia was on the little things that has driven me crazy for like three years.
