Hardwired trolling motor

Looking like I may have an issue with my ancient Tour 109. It's hardwired through the bow panel instead of a plug & receptacle.

Anyone know how to get the wires free from this joker without breaking it? Looks like it should be simpler than it is.

Disconnect the battery(s), slice the old crusty wire loom lengthwise...Rip & Snort.

Swore I'd never have another hardwired TM, and I may live to regret that. Never say never.

Nothing will ruin your day quicker than a G°¶¶^€∆£¶  24v trolling motor plug receptacle.    Hardwire is the way to go!

They do run. Just a pain if you need to switch one out in a hurry.

That cover Ranger used is an odd little deal. It has a real grip on the wires.

I must disagree.   I find it way quicker to make 2 sealed butt splices than I do installing a 5-piece male plug assembly.   

That loom with those TM leads inside of it slipped easily into that grommet when it was all fresh slick and stretchy.   😊

That's probably it. Might give it the dish soap treatment tomorrow, see that inspires it to move.

Agree on the butt connectors, too, at home in the garage. But if you lose one at the lake, and carry a spare TM, the plugs come running to the rescue. Assuming they'll connect, and rain doesn't wreck them.

Just take a razor knife, split and peel away that stiff old wire loom down to where the splice is....then pull the wires right out.   You can tape the old loom back together if you're in love with it,  or put in a new fresh piece of loom.

I've got plenty of 6ga, no problem there. More concerned with keeping that plastic piece intact. It definitely feels brittle. Have an idea it'll be a bear to find a replacement.

I don't think you are understanding what I'm telling you to do.  

That black vinyl "sock" that the two wires are inside of.......Split it and cut it out of there (just be careful to not cut into the wires).   Once that crap is removed the 2 wires will pull right out of that fancy unreplaceable grommet.
