Members Cptndeez Posted April 16, 2021 Members Posted April 16, 2021 Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this forum and to fishing Stockton. I am traveling down to fish it next weekend, Apr 24-25. I see the week preceding it will be cold and rainy. My question is, if I was wanting to target smallies, what kind of structure should I be looking for? Maybe back into a jerkbait bite type a deal? Any general info you're willing to share is welcomed and thank you in advance.
Dutch Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 With the crazy weather that we have had I won’t even tender a guess. In a normal year they would be spawned by now and I would be looking for them off points and on flats in around 20 feet of water, but this is anything but normal. Some years a TRD on a light head is the best smallmouth bait you can throw. Cptndeez 1
Skeeter ZX190 Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 This is a strange and late year. I fished Stockton on the 9th, and of the 16 bass I caught, 4 or 5 were smallies. Caught 1 on a rock crawler and the rest came on the ned. 4 to 9 feet deep on secondary points. Even though the water is still cold, you have to figure they would be staging close to spawning areas.
