I usually use a medium action rod with those Keitech's with 20 lb braid and an 8 lb floro leader. Is that enough brawn if you hook up on a striper? What is your line and rod setup?

I used 8 lb. leader quite a bit last year and for smaller fish, less than 10 lbs. it will work if you have room to play them (no trees).  I have bumped it up a bit to 10 lb. this year.  If a big striper breaks me off, it is no big deal to me, I just like to play with them.

Years ago, I fished Texhoma with a law school classmate that loved to chase stripers. The maniac drove full throttle chasing the gulls.

He swam c tail grubs through stripers busting the top. He said the big fish stay below and feed on the dead and dying shad that sink. I do not know if he was correct, but we caught some really decent fish between 10 and 20.

I love the top water action, so that's what I'll target as long as it is going on.  Buddy of mine caught a 30 lber. fishing a Storm Wild Eye Shad through the top water fish.

Don't know if you can still get them, but an Ozark Mountain Woodchopper was my favorite striper TW for a long time. If you get a swing & miss, a sped up "get the heck outta here" response works well.

I can't dance like I used to.
