Is that enough brawn if you hook up on a striper? What is your line and rod setup? I used 8 lb. leader quite a bit last year and for smaller fish, less than 10 lbs. it will work if you have room to play them (no trees). I have bumped it up a bit to 10 lb. this year. If a big striper breaks me off, it is no big deal to me, I just like to play with them.
rps Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Years ago, I fished Texhoma with a law school classmate that loved to chase stripers. The maniac drove full throttle chasing the gulls. He swam c tail grubs through stripers busting the top. He said the big fish stay below and feed on the dead and dying shad that sink. I do not know if he was correct, but we caught some really decent fish between 10 and 20.
Quillback Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 I love the top water action, so that's what I'll target as long as it is going on. Buddy of mine caught a 30 lber. fishing a Storm Wild Eye Shad through the top water fish.
bfishn Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Don't know if you can still get them, but an Ozark Mountain Woodchopper was my favorite striper TW for a long time. If you get a swing & miss, a sped up "get the heck outta here" response works well. Quillback 1 I can't dance like I used to.
