Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 16, 2007 Root Admin Share Posted July 16, 2007 This may seem really picky but I need to nip something in the bud before it gets to be a problem. This has happened VERY little here and I'm grateful. It's the use of symbols to substitute for letters that make inappropriate words. Although it's accepted on other sites, it isn't here. Please don't think I intend to take anyone's freedom of speech away here... just a few unnecessary adjectives.. . Please don't take this personal. Thanks to everyone for making this such a fantastic forum. It's amazing with this many people using it how little we have to monitor it.
Thom
Not a problem and not necessary to use expleteves. This is a quality forum with great guys not wanting to lower it's standards of conduct and respect. Most will respect the admin judgement and abide. One of the few times I remember any intervention by admin was just last week and received 100% positive feedback. Thom Harvengt
Terry Beeson
OK... I guess that means I can't call Dano a .... oh never mind... NOT a problem, Phil... But I do have a lapse of "old-timers" at times... Too many good folks on this forum for it to be a problem... Rusty
Can the symbols be used if the words are appropriate?
brownieman
I understand your point fully and agree. Concerning this particular post I do believe the symbols were not meant in an abrasive or improper manner...CC has a grasp of the english language far above most I have seen. I for one do not think his symbols represented any foul language...guess it's all in the perception of the reader. Just my take on this one. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Members bojack
afternoon: i'm on one of the other boards alot and if you don't call someone a bad name or use a cuss word in every other sentence your just not a man. i have never heard grown men talk the way they do. it is such a pleasure to come over here and read about fishing and what bait to use and how a person did the other day. thanks, i appreciate it. god bless! fishinwrench
Ah yes, political correctness and Sunday mornin' decency among fishermen requested at yet another forum, and posts that are straight to the point...without displaying emotion and character. Just like a visit with my ex-Mother in-law....oh Goody ! While we're at it, can you get rid of this guy... Because graphics of this sort could convey a very negetive message that might cause the random disfunctional child to require therapy someday...or worse yet, cause them to take a gun to school.... I have never-ever seen any post on this forum that contained language...or "symbols of language"....that is any less "proper" than what can be heard on prime time cable....but, you're the boss Phil. You wont find much cursing here but lieing about the size of fish might happen just a little. Well maybe not I think that is on another forum. LOL Oh well we shall see. Thom
Mark Twain once said something like this " Keep your mouth closed and let a man wonder if your are ignorant or open it and remove all doubt" It doesn't take much intellegence to call a man a disrepectful name or insult him. Sometimes it comes back to haunt you though. You don't hear the most intellegent man in the world "Rush" calling liberals crack heads anymore. It does take lot of thought and much more work to make a point based on fact and experience. We get lots of that here and I like it . I learn a lot from that even when I might disagree. This forum often gets emotional and heated in opinions but we usually let cooler minds prevail thus very little need for any censure.
