huntest Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 I have 2 Lowrance HDS Gen 2 units (not touch units) I am using the original out of the box transducers and they seem to work just ok. Would there be a benefit to replacing them with new transducers? Are there any new transducers that are compatible with my HDS Gen 2 units that would be an upgrade? I have the Lowrance Structure Scan setup as well and it still produces nice views. Thanks for the help

I use the hdi transducer on the hds for 2d sonar, I have the hdi on the front using the universal transducer in my motor guide. I think the hdi has a better 2d image than my hds 2d no matter which transducer I use. I was disappointed in the 2d gen two non touch. I have not found a way to make it better.
Bill Babler Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 It strictly depends on the 2D signal you are currently receiving from the unit. Unless you are either turning the unit off or putting it in standby every time you move, you are putting lots of hours in that transducer. If you continually have to raise the gain/sensitivity that is a pretty good indicator. My Gen2 touch has its best picture at about 73%. That can change with depth, but that's a pretty telling number. Maybe Dockit will chime in because he is shooting a beautiful picture. I think his units are brand new however. Hope this helped a little. dtrs5kprs 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Thanks Bill, I'm good about putting them in standby or turning them off For as old as they are they have relatively few hours on them. I will test the 73% etc. settings to see if I can improve the 2d. Dockits images are quite a bit better then mine
