I watched a nice documentary of Joe Humphreys today and looked up his Cress Bug, which is a scud as best as I can tell.

Caveats: I suck at dubbing. I couldn't find my wax so I used a glue stick.

It's a size 10 nymph Daiichi 2170, few wraps of led, grey scud dubbing, and grizzly hackle trimmed. Seems appropriate for Crane Creek since I see so much watercress there and it's similar to those Pennsylvania streams Humphreys fished.

I think technically a sowbug, not a scud. But I use the same flies more or less interchangeably.
