Members Stevent Posted May 10, 2022 Members Posted May 10, 2022 Hey everyone I have been coming to Taneycomo for the last 10 years or so with my dad and some people. We always used to come in March, but things have changed over the years and last year we made it down three times. This year our first trip is in June and I decided to try tying some of my own flies for the first time. We use jigs a lot (I have been tying them too, I ordered heads from Lily's because we love their jigs.), but I always fish san Juans, scuds and midges too. I was hoping someone could tell me I am tying my scuds right. I copied the simple design I always use, but not sure how much lead wire to add or if it matters. The way the water is flowing I figure the more the better. Any thoughts? I forgot to take a picture of my scuds, but I am using a simplistic grey with red thread head just like I have bought in years past. No ribs or anything fancy, it almost looks like a sow bug to me. Any other patterns I could tie up for the group?

I have done them with twice or three times the lead. Scuds are pretty easy to tie - so tie up a bunch. Do some with 7 wraps, some with 14. Personally, I like em heavy. I'll even add a tungsten bead some times to get that sucker down where the fish are. trythisonemv 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 10, 2022 Root Admin Posted May 10, 2022 Post a pic of your scud. Eggs are working too.
Members Stevent Posted May 10, 2022 Author Members Posted May 10, 2022 I bought the stuff for some eggs in my last order. I just have not got around to them yet. Any special recipe for the eggs or just find one and go? trythisonemv 1
