Find a diesel performance shop in your area. Talk to them, most of them like those Fords-(Found on road dead) trucks.

My dodge turbo went out, I upgraded the turbo and $4,600 bucks later I was running down the road.

That’s the plan Monday morning. Ford estimate without looking at it was $3200 for upgraded turbo out the door. We shall see. Pulled the boat to Stockton today with my F250 V10. Boy do i miss that diesel.

Must be a big boat if it takes a F450 diesel to pull it.

6.7s have some odd design choices. The cylinder heads are backwards, the exhaust manifolds come together in the valley, and the intake ports are on the outside. The "intake manifold" is cast into the valve cover.

On top of all that the turbo is kind of like two in one. There are two compressor wheels on a single shaft and exhaust turbine. They do have some problems, but that goes for all modern diesels with VGT style turbos.

I have never worked on one. But from what I've heard Ford made a lot of changes so you can do pretty much everything aside from engine removal without pulling the cab, so hopefully they won't beat you up too bad on labor.

Ha. It definitely gets it share of other pulling duties as well. It’s usually hooked to a trailer of some type 5 days a week.

Luckily pulling the cab is an almost past requirement nowadays. Some still do it to give more room. Truck has 139,000 miles now and tho it’s no guarantee when a turbo will go, i know a few buddies “2 dodge and a Ford” that have replaced them under 100,000 miles. And the cp4 is another dog entirely. I may go with the larger 17+ turbo this round.

On a side note, i used my F250 gasser yesterday to pull the boat to Stockton and noticed a weird noise/vibration. After getting home i noticed the lug nut cap was almost off. I popped it off to see this.

Ouch.  Aluminum wheels are pricy.
