Structure and Crappie Fishing?

I have always tried to fish in brush for Crappie. 

Watched a Video a guy was fishing open water. Don't really know if he was fishing structure because he said they was scattered. 

Question is if you're fishing strange water and don't know the structure can a person fish open water and hope to find them?

Absolutely .  Just be sure to fish at their depth or 2-4' above them, never below.
