Cicadas as bait

Inexperienced trout fisherman here. Due to chemo treatments my fishing has been very limited and I was thinking of going down to the public docks by the landing and trying my luck. Is it legal to use Cicadas as bait. I have plenty in my back yard. Is 4lb test ok? Any other useful tips? Thanks in advance for the info.

As long as it is in a bait fishing zone, I don't know why you could not fish them.

Years ago I used to fish a grasshopper on a light hook behind a clear float.  The float is mainly for casting weight, the hopper would stay on top.  Might work with a cicada.

Look for a tree on water's edge that is loaded with cicada's and cast one under it. Cicada's are clumsy fliers and make for easy pickings for the fish.
