Crappie Sampling on Beaver Lake Nets the Occasional Trophy Flathead Catish!

Biologists in Northwest Arkansas recently conducted sampling for crappie in Beaver Lake, utilizing both trap nets and lead nets. This work yielded crappie ranging in size from 5 to 14 inches, with the largest individual weighing 1.5 pounds. Sampling will continue through December to finalize the evaluation. Flathead catfish occasionally entered the nets—an interesting observation during this work. Nets containing these large predators often appeared suspiciously vacant of crappie or bluegill, suggesting the catfish gobbled up the smaller fish!
