After living in central Calif. for over 50 years, the Mexican food in Mo. rates way down on the list. Kind of like the commercial about, He gets his salsa from New York City. Have tried almost all of the places in Springfield I would rather go to Taco Bell. Salsa in Mo. must be made mostly of catchup. Have to order what the cook eats [non gringo salsa] They must have an agreement no reel Mexican food is allowed pass Texas. One thing I have noticed there is a Chinese buffet on almost every corner. Not much there either.

Has anyone had Basque food. If you are ever in Bakersfield, CA give it a try.

Also does anyone In SW MO. know anything about a hot pastrami sandwich? Never been able to find anyone who makes them.

I kinda like MV but their salsa is bad. I pick my MX food places by their salsa which there aren't many good ones. And I have to note naru70's comments... what is "real" MX food anyhow? It goes to each individual's taste really.

They used to make an enchilada frozen dinner when I was a kid- 6 or 8 in a package. I loved them.

naru, I have not seen real pastrami in the OZarks, here its just a ground proccesed meat. The closest I have found was at a place in Springfield IL. in 2003.

I base tmex food on what I ate as a kid out in Colorado,late 1950's thru the mid 1960's, Uncles wife could not speak english when they first married. Plus there were little stands around Denver. Plus what I have eaten in southern Mexico and the Yucatan (not in Cancun or Cozamel either) traveled to Spain several times while in the service its different than mex too.

The Gyros over in Europe are awesome, nothing like the dog food they try to serve here in the USA..

Good Basque has Datil pepers in it they have a different flavor!!!

I have to agree with the Chinese buffets, just not good Chinese food, its good food but not real Chinese.

Next time anyone is in Atlanta try the Atlanta Underground, some really good Veitnamese food. but you Veit vets may not like the place!!! A Veit. era SF soldier took me there a few weeks back.

OK, guys. If you want real mexican restaurant food in Springfield, go to Tortilleria Perches. It's in the Elfindale Center on Sunshine, behind Firestone Tires and Pizza Hut. It's the real deal.

As for true hot pastrami sandwiches, naru70, there used to be a place called Piccolo Joe's that had them, but he closed about 6 months ago.

I didn't care for the salsa at Mexican Villa either (as Phil mentioned), therefore did not care for it as a whole. The best mexican food on the planet is Margarita's in Kansas City, hands down, no contest, game over
