Members Fox Statler Posted February 3, 2006 Members Posted February 3, 2006 I think ya'll are missing something here. Phil said they go from dock to dock eating guts. This is what they are keying on and looking for. My suggestion would be to use a white rubber worm with little or no weight. They are looking for trout guts, so imitate them. I already know that this works because the first fisherman I ever saw with a big stringer of browns was using a white rubber worm and fishing below the Bull Shoals State Park Trout Dock (it was called the Never Sail Trout Dock then). The old guy was the breakfast cook at Gaston's Resort and fish there about three times a week. Fishin' What They See, Fox Statler
Seth Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 I know a rubber trout magnet attracts those big gut eaters. I caught a 10lb rainbow on a white rubber trout magnet that I seen eating the guts by the dock. If a person uses a big dead bait setup for fishing for these browns, I wonder how heavy of line a person could get away with? Even if people would look down on you for using dead bait or w/e, I would do whatever it takes to catch one of those pigs just as long as it is legal. Has anybody ever used a big white slugo for fishing for browns? I wondered how it would do for trout?
Gavin Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I think one of the previous Missouri State Records was caught on a Shad Assassin, a bait very similar to a sluggo. I think the Zoom Fluke is a better bait than a sluggo though. Might try dead sticking, or slow twitchin flukes or senkos on some power pro. Fishing at night or during low light wouldnt hurt either. Cheers.
Members hoover25 Posted February 3, 2006 Members Posted February 3, 2006 My "sorta heavy" trout rig is an old All Star medium heavy spinning rod with a shimano symmetre (sp?) reel. I use 30 power pro with 5 feet of 10-20 lb seguar florocarbon leader connected using the "uni-to-uni" knot. This also works well when fishing from the shore and they are running all 4 turbines near the dam. Sometimes a 18 inch trout feels gi-normous when its in the heavy current.
Seth Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 I would say that is pretty heavy for trout. What kind of lures do you fish with that setup? Big jerkbaits???? Do you still get plenty of bites with that heavy of line?

Seth Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 Phil, Where is Monkey Island? I think it is the island just above the bridge right??? I can't think of any other islands on Taneycomo.

I can't think of any other islands on Taneycomo. monkey island is the island just above the 65 bridge. there must be a good population of browns in that area. we seem to catch at least one every weekend that we fish. including this 5 lb on corn.
