Ealy Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I've been using the Mr. Crappie 4 lb camo color line for the last couple of years. Before that I always used 4 lb Stren in either clear or hi-vis gold. At Pomme de Terre, the fish don't seem bothered by the high-vis gold line. It also makes it easier to watch for that pop in your line when they're biting light. I'm wondering what you all use. I'm looking for a line with very little memory, good castability, and good sensitivity. I have always fished 4 lb for crappie, but am open to suggestions. 99% of the time I'm fishing with 1/16th oz jigs.
Dutch Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Have you tried a light braided line like a 10/2 or an 8/1. They have good feel, no strecth and great castability. With Pomme de Terre's mostly off colored water they might do the trick for you.
LostMyWife Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I like 4 pound silver thread. Yes, I'm That Guy
OzarkFishman Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I know I am bringing up an old topic here, but I think 4# P-Line Floroclear is the best small line. It has a little stretch with the copolymer core, but also has the abrasion resistance with the fluorocarbon coating. Just my 2 cents. These 2 were caught with P-Line. OzarkFishman

OzarkFishman I'll second the nomination for P-Line FC. It's the best handling line for spinning reels I've ever used, and it's tough as nails to boot. I use it on all my crappie and smallmouth rods....and I use it for tippet on all my warmwater fly rods. Love the stuff
et84 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Yo-Zuri makes some great fishing line. It's flouro coated monofilament (same diameter as mono with MUCH less stretch). I will always use the Mr. Crappie line as back up, but Yo-Zuri 4 lb. test is about the same price (5 or 6 bucks at Pro Bass for a 1/4 lb. spool). I think it only comes in clear, but you might want to give it a try. "Sometimes it seems like such a hard life, but there's good times around the bend.
