Slowest days of hunting all year for me. I managed to see one day all weekend long. The place I'm on always has does all over it, except for this weekend.

My dad, mom, and step brother each took deer on our farm below or house though Sunday evening within the last 10 minutes of shooting light. They got a nice 8 pointer, a small basket 8, and a doe.

I heard a lot of people saying the same thing about the deer just weren't moving very well.

Wow! what were you using? i've heard of two in one shot -- but four??

I saw one doe opening morning and a good 8-point late Saturday evening. No chance to shoot at either one. Out of our group of 8 hunters we took 4 deer.

Ready to see what kind of weather we are going to have this coming weekend. Hopefully the wind will stop blowing and the temps will drop a little.

Good luck

Numbers statewide are way down. Too warm and they are moving at night. Later in the week should be better. I'm leaving tomorrow till Friday. Going up by Trenton.

I didn't see anything opening day. I hunted private land in the morning and public in the afternoon and evening in Texas County.

Sunday morning I did bump a couple in very thick cover on public land.

There was no opportunity for a shot, just too thick. I believe they were bedded down from the HEAT! :noway:

All the folks I've talked to around here in Central MO have been saying that the deer movement was good. I went out with a young man on Saturday and we were burried in does. We were trying for his first deer so we didn't wait on any monsters to come round...he put great shots on two deer within a minute of eachother and he filled his tags...couldn't have written a better script for his first deer...or the second! I didn't make it out Sunday.

The rut is definately on here...lot's of bucks being seen and all were seen on the move chasing does (or so I heard!). My boss and his dad actually had photo proof with a couple of nice bucks in the back of the truck. I'll be heading out the middle of this week...my turn now!

Good luck,

Morgan F.

I guess every area is different... I talked to a friend who hunts family land NE of Sedalia and they've only killed one deer- they usually kill 10 or more on opening weekend and 10-15 more the rest of the week. He thinks they're there, just not moving. Babler's killed a couple around Camdenton. Vince's son killed an 8 point here locally on Saturday.
