Trav Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Brown Trout are pretty big predators, BUT, they are very elusive and hard to catch. Very close to Musky, the fish of a thousand casts. I think if they stocked three times as many, and at three times the size, and make them all Catch and Release we wouldnt even be having this conversation. Predator1 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Oh yea, a whole chicken works good on big cats in Louisiana, but what ever you do....DO NOT introduce STRIPERS in Taneycoma......Several years ago before I started fishing Lake Lanier in Georgia the Georgia Wildlife and fisheries had a large population of Rainbows in the lake...Once they introduced the Stripers, they ate all the trout...as a result, Lake Lanier is now well known for 35lb and larger stripers. Let's dont even think about STRIPERS in Taneycoma. I dont think the Hatchery could keep up with feeding the Stripers.
drew03cmc Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Well, the lake obviously cannot keep up with feeding the 10" rainbow trout either. I just think that if the herd were thinned out some, it might promote higher average size, along with larger top end size. Andy
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 24, 2008 Root Admin Posted June 24, 2008 No- there isn't enough food for 750,000 rainbows. But that's part of the management plan. Most of the lake is "put and take". The average rainbow only lasts 30 days in Taney, below Fall Creek.
Predator1 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 The trout would definately thin out....I'm serious, there would not be no trout left....Most of the big striper fishers, actually buy rainbow trout at local stores to troll for big stripers. Even though there are alot of trout in Taneycoma, it still makes for good fishing.....Maybe introduce them above the dam...ha.ha. That would be something.
Predator1 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 HEY LILLEY, GLAD YOUR ON HERE.....met one of your buddies in Food For Less yesterday....ol MARK sure is pretty cool...makes some nice flies...hope to pick up a few...my stepdad just got in Branson today..last week was his birthday...he's big on Taneycoma.....Mark said he would teach me not to whip my leader off on that fly rod. I think my stepdad was gettn tired of re tieing
Trav Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 I would love to see more Browns over 6 pounds. The majority that I catch are between 3 and 6 pounds. And I target only Large fish. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
laker67 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Now to address this. Opinions are what this thread was about, don't like it, don't read it. . I, for one, have never fished trout in Taney, and have no intention of it.
Trav Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 This is funny. We all know the lake wont change, Unless they bust down powersite dam wich wont happen. But it is fun to talk about! Drew, I have caught plenty of trout. None were anemic, and until recently the Browns were far from alien. You just need to know how to find them! Twosets, The browns eat plenty of bows. Thats not the problem. They need more browns! Fill the lake with 3 pound browns and tell people they cant keep them until they are 6 pounds! Stops all this talk of needing more fun on taney and we can stock more bows for the browns might get hungry. And I do agree with Greg, sometimes its better to laugh at the likes me, than to let my types to get under your skin. What the heck do we know anyway???????
