I'm in favor of a $5 daily trout tag around the hatchery period :P

You have to pay this way in every other "trophy area"

Help with cost of put and take fish.

Cause you know its "All About the Money"

Well, what trophy area do you have to pay $5 a day to fish here in MO? I ask because the only real places that are "public" that you pay are the parks. How about the trophy are on the Meramec, or Current? Free, just $12+7 per year for residents.

Drew would stay at home for sure if they did that

Hmm, not if the larger size fish were the dominant catch ;)

"1/1,000,000" You have a much better chance than that of catching a 15 pound brown here.

"Phil again, what is the approximate amount of trout that the lake could support if all were catch and release? " I have no idea. That's a fb question (fisheries biologist).

As for your comment about 14 inch rainbows... IF you're a good fisherman, and you have the means, you should be able to catch numerous 18-inch rainbows in a day's time on Taneycomo. At least they are there in abundance RIGHT NOW. They aren't always though.

Phil, I exaggerated the odds, but you got the point. I bet that Michael has caught close to 10,000 trout there and just broke the 10# mark, so there might be a realistic 1/50,000 odd of it...

I completely understand the fb stuff, but was speaking hypothetically so to speak.

I have caught a dozen or so over 10 pounds.

Only one was over 11 though. As far as odds go, I dont know if I can say I have caught over 10,000 Browns. Or even a 1000 for that much. I only caught 42 all of last year.

Phil, thank you for using the phrase I used earlier "put and take", which was shot down VERY quickly that most of the trout stay in the lake and grow...I cannot see that happening, there is a lack of food, scuds, sowbugs, midges, etc.

Did you really read Phil's comment??? He talked about the lower lake rainbows being mostly put and take but he prefaced that with "below Fall Creek". Sorry but the upper lake where the slot is in effect is not primarily put and take. Also I'm sure he (Phil) is right that in the lower lake the average bow lasts about 30 days - But that doesn't mean there are not bigger rainbows down there. I would bet there are.

And if the lake is truly overstocked and not supporting the bows and browns foodwise - why are both the rainbows and browns always so fat and healthy? Even in the lower lake where the average fish is caught in about a month - a month is plenty of time for such a fish to become emaciated. But if you see that at all it is rare.

Sorry - I realize "put and take" and "put and grow" are just semantics. And that there can be a fine line between the 2 as Trav pointed out. But I really don't like to see Taney run down and dismissed as second rate. It's not. Could it be better? Probably. But it's pretty great as is.

I know you guys know but these phases are MDC's not mine. This is how MDC labels Taneycomo, not me. And the figures like 30 days are not mine either- they are MDC's. I'm just not that smart.

There are plenty of rainbows over 3 pounds down here in the lower. I have caught more rainbows over 3 pounds than I have Browns. Just because I target large browns doesnt mean I dont catch bows as well. I call them incidental catches.

I doubt they were stocked that big so plenty are growing in the lake.

Greg,

What ever you think, dont think I am bashing Taney or the trout. I am absolutely proud to live on such a great fisherey. I really dont care if it is a big aquarium. Its my home. Although a few more walleye and smallies in the fish tank couldnt hurt to much. ;)

What I really despise though is all the trash that backs up behind my dock. Haha

But nothing can be perfect. I know that I am far from perfection myself.

How about these babies... worth traveling 5-6 hours for? :D:D:D:D Seriously, Taney is a great trout fishery.

AND as far as catching that 15 pounder- the BEST way to catch one is to learn the technique of TROLLING. I know a guy who catches 10 pound browns all the time. And it's not Trav.

My Dad trolls probably 85% of the time on his home lake. Does a killing on the walleye.

Trav - I think I realize that now. Obviously you hold some different opinions about Taney than I and some of the rest of us do. But if we all agreed on everything how boring would that be??

Did the lake trout in BS work out, or did they fizzle? How about the brownies?

The lakers did well but the commison says no to stocking more, they of course never spawned. Most of the pople did not know what they had. Even my dad thought filleting a 10 pound trout was great until I told him it had been a laker.

[b} the Current Missouri state record Brown is from Taneycomo and I have access to 4 replicas of the fish.

At this time there is one out of the mold and the one master copy 27 lb oz, Male here the fish pic.

I dont know which fish it is, I do know this was slow in getting molded due to conflicts and my frined did the mold and offered me four of them. Less than 2 oz difference between the two fish?? So I dont know and they both being males.

Its up to you to say which one it is, lol.

I thought I would offer them here first.
