If You Could Interject Any Species

Introducing new species is a bad idea. While we think that the professionals can predict every interaction and consequence, experience with Murhpy's Law should raise our skepticism.

Taney is a special place that seems to be working quite well AS IS. I don't think the resorts or guides would see their business improve as a consquence of a new species. If you're a fisherman already coming to Taney, it must have enough alure with its present offerings.

There are lots of things that could go out of balance, and I think we need to look deeper than just the food chain and habitat.

Instead, let's pick some place that is failing and attempt to invigorate it through this idea !

I'd vote for hybrid blue gill, hybrid white bass. Yellow perch would top my list.

Cutts and brooks - I'd love to see them but MDC has said no way so I'm not gonna bother.

Not sure what they're reasoning is now but in the past- brooks grow too slow and cutts- honestly don't remember. I'd say with all the new rules about transporting across state lines now and the diseases there are now, there'd have to be a REAL good reason to get them.

Not sure how Arknasas gets them for the white and norfork tailwaters... they think it's worth the trouble.

Had a buddy tell me just the other day that he was catching plenty of white bass out of bull shoals. Think he said up in beaver creek.

I fish WAY below the top 4 miles of Taneycomo...100% fly rod. It's just a matter of time until some guides figure it out. I don't need any other species of fish in Taney. I catch 7 already. And that's all I'm saying about that.

I think Taney could benefit from another species, one that offered more size combined with better creel numbers. I don't however think the lake is capable of supporting one. It already has the remnants of warm water species and they are probably at the peak of there density.

If you bring in Wipers, Striper's can't really be controlled that well, what do they feed on? They were originally brought in to control shad populations that grew too large for the native fish to control.

Hands Down I would like to see a catchable population of Walleye. I agree with several of trav's points the trout fishing would still remain good expecially the quality fish. Especially considering the life expectancy of a trout is about 30 minutes on a sunny Saturday.

My Optimum Solution

Stock Walleye as well as extend the Tropy Area Slot limit to a Lake Wide regulation. This would allow the trout to get bigger lake wide.

I would love to see a lake wide slot limit! Lets add on the "only artificial" lake wide as well. I could never understand why they limited it to just above fall creek. Brownies have lake wide limits, so should the bows.

If I could only pick one fish to add to Taneycomo it would be the Channel Cat. I have Bass and Brownies now, give me some Channels and I would be content without the others.

Has been fun debating over the others though. In a perfect world I guess. LOL
