JS - I feel your pain. We have tons of squirrels in our yard. In the past 2 years they have:

1. Chewed up the propane outtake pipe on my gas bbq grill x 2.

2. Chewed up multiple cushions on our outdoor furniture.

3. Gotten into the engine compartment of my 19 year old son's car several times and chewed on the piston wires. This was the most costly one.

So we are not a big fan of that particular somewhat cute but very destructive outdoor varmit in this house. And I have left my waders out to dry overnight a few times - but after hearing your experience - I never will again!!

Two years ago when I took the cover of my boat to get it ready to go it was full of leaves and the squirrels had eaten the cap off my gas tank as well as a few holes in the top side of the plastic. Go figure. They also have eaten insulation off the wires in my tool shed. I leave the power turned on now and that seems to help solve that problem.

What is really strange is that there is plenty of acorns, pecans and corn available. Why did they go for my boat. I now keep moth balls under the tarp in the fuel compartment.

:closedeyes:Moth balls????? Are they some kind of nut?????????? Maybe that's not such a good idea.

Lets not get into stories of animals tearing crap up. I can go for hours about my dock and the otters...Haha

Even my Varmit Killer has problems getting them. She dont swim quite as fast they do.

Yep - must have been revenge for earlier in my life transgressions against them. I mean what were they going to do with a few little squares of wader material? Waterproof thier nest? No question - pine squirrels are now my favorite fly. B)

The good side of course - valuable lesson learned for future reference - if you are needing to squeeze some new waders past the wife, just lay yours out to "dry" with a few peanuts scattered about, and maybe a couple hid in the legs..... Since my wife actually feeds the squirrels and keeps them in our yard, she did first blame me of course for putting the waders outside - like I should have known that those innocent little varmints didn't know better and would just be chewing and having fun.- but then she eventually decided to keep peace between me and the squirrels with new waders. ;)

OMG ! Rolling on the floor laughing my arse off at that video, thanks so much for posting. Gonna' have to try putting one together but will aim it for the broad side of a close by tree, SPLAT ! Anything one can do to discourage and thin out the "tree rats " is a plus. They really have no predators anymore except for the Great Horned Owl that will pick them off at night if they can find their nest site. I've seen a full grown fox at my deer feeder try and nail one and the darn squirrel came out the winner. Your wife will rue the day she encouraged squirrels to hang around your home and will enjoy paying to have them removed from your attic after they chew their way in. Greatly encourage .22 with short shorts or high velocity pellet guns to reduce their numbers. Traps are so-so but for Pete's sake if you trap 'em send them to squirrel heaven and don't try and re-locate.

Are ya' sure it was squirrels? If you left them out overnight, it may have been the "night shift", i.e. rats.

If you have squirrels in the daytime, you probably have rats at night... especially if you have bird feeders in the yard... or dogs - 'cus rats love to eat dog feces!
