Jeremy Hunt Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Hey Guys, I fish Bennett alot and would like to see how to tie the "John Deere" and the brassie. Any help would be welcome. I have not heard of that pattern. See if you can tell me what the recipe is and we can try to get it up. I can call the shop who carries it and ask how to tie it. Then we can post it. Let me know. dave potts Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 The John Deere is actually a jig. It's tied on a 1/32 or 1/64 jig head and has a chrartreuse chenille body with a dark green head and yellow eyes (thus the name John Deere). Weaver's at Bennett sells them. I've heard they can be really hot at times. Dave

I tied some up and hope he has the same luck next time with these. My son fished it on a indicator above the dam. good luck
Members Oldschoolcane Posted February 17, 2006 Members Posted February 17, 2006 How about tying the McClellans Woven Sowbug or the Humpback Scud? I am curious about the sowbug pattern and how its different from all the others? Have never seen either fly. Tim
jjtroutbum Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 John Deer also has small olive marabou tail named after the tractor if that gives hint as to the color green/yellow eye. I've have had so much luck with this mini jig. I framed one in 2oo2 with a picture of a four pounder it caught. Micheal Kyle Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 King Ming, Just wanted to let you know that Jim Murphy works for me at my shop and is an excellent bait fish tier. If you want you can call or stop by anytime and talk to him. Jim has tied at SOC and out at the national fly fishing conclave, for the last couple of years. He is also the 5 time S.M.F.F. fly tier of the year. I'm not sure if you knows this but we do have tying night here at the shop on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month and we tie a lot of warm water patterns. I feel that Jim is one of the best in this area with those patterns. Good luck Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
