Maramec Springs Report 1/27

Arrived at MS around 11am.....man was it crowded! I think everyone else had the same idea on a BEAUTIFUL day. Met Patfish, Sherwood Flycaster and Patfish's personal photographer ....was nice to meet you guys! Fishing was rather slow...brought 6 to hand, all on #22 tan, purple tailed G-bug, under an indicator. Fish seemed to be sun bathing just below the surface, not moving much. Threw #18 red zebra midge, Tim's secret fly, #20 tan/olive G-bug and a #18 tan scud, but the #22 tan/purple G-bug was the only producer.

Was a great day to be on the water, even though it was slow!

Fish On!

We were there on Saturday, it wasn't very crowded. Those fish just under the surface hit small, light colored cracklebacks and #18 Griffith's Gnats. Sometimes they would come up for them on top (dry); other times I would sink and strip them. A real fast strip would sometimes get them excited. Landed about 15 and it was the best dry fly action I've ever had at Maramec. There was a pretty good hatch most of the afternoon - looked like small blue winged olives and some bigger brown caddis.

Down in the the river outside the park pine squirrel sculpins fooled a few trout.

Flyfshn, Thanks for the report, you're giving me the itch to get out. Glad you had a good time. You are gonna have to show me that g-bug, or better yet post a recipe on here. Take care

Hey Flyfshn, great to meet you too!

Tough day of catching, but a killer day of fishing.

and Patfish's personal photographer ....

Nice! Anyone else have their own personal photographer?

Actually, she's my girlfriend... so she useful for things other than taking pictures. Not to mention, the more she is behind the camera, the less likely it is that she out-fishes me.

Too bad I didn't have some fish for her to take pictures of....:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Yup, was another great January day on the water. And good to meet another OAF'r as well.

Scuds, scuds and scuds were my main meal ticket. White wooley brought a few also.

Hey Pat, next time we wanna go, we need to keep it to ourselves- that was almost an in-season type crowd that followed us down there! :ninja:

(plastic worm fishers included.... )

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark
