Even though im pretty much invisible on this site i will go ahead and chime in here. As for the boats i fish out of a kayak on a regular basis. I always when possible take my boat behind a fly fisher ( making sure im seen or heard right before i get behind them as to not get hooked on a back cast. Now if that fisher is positioned so i can get behind him i will do my best to stay out of or away from the hole they are fishing AMAP. They dont own the river if they want to cry about it at that point well that just a personal problem they are going to have to deal with.

On the river the only thing that really GRINDS MY GEARS is

1) certian individuals down on the river whos voices carry very well and never seem to be able to shut their mouths

2) and two when someone walks in and positions themself about 30 feet upstream from you. ( this is really the only thing i will voice my opinion about)

that being said SOME fly fishers do come off as being some of the most picky, emotional people i have ever met and three females live in my house

11. spinfishermen (I am one)

sorry to burst your bubble :)

Phil you are not trying claim you are just just strictly a spin fisherman are you? I think I've seen you out on the lake with a fly rod a few times haven't I?? Just kidding you I know what you meant. :D

For myself though who is definitely a dedicated fly fisherman:

1. aluminum boats - no problem at all unless they cut right in front or behind and don't even say anything.

2.denim construction - I wear jeans most of the time when not working.

3.stringers - never use them but have nothing against those that do as long as they are taking fish legally.

4.Domestic beer - the few times/year I drink I mostly do drink domestic.

5.Wind - like it unless it is gale force.

6.Calm - love it.

7.Cold like it - but not below about 20 degrees.

8.Heat - love it.

9.Too much current - no problem

10.Too little current - no problem

11.Spinfisherman - no problem

12.other fly fisherman - no problem but shufflers really get to me :angry2:

13.Locals - not a problem

14.Tourists - not a problem

15.People who hijack threads - as long as it's not mine!

See not all fly fisherman are curmudgeonly cranks!!

Thanks for the responses guys, it's appreciated. Slider if you hook me in my ear, you'll have to reel me in and then I might just stay in the boat and fish till I get my limit. So watch your cast.

I was serious about coming down to mile 9 to trap for otter. I have a serious infestation down here. My dog can kill the coons and other varmits, but she dont like to swim. Haha

If you want to scope the trails I would let you use my dock as a staging point. There is a few mink as well. Just let me know if your interested. I might like to help you.

Hey Trav, I might take you up on that offer. Regular trapping season is over now, but there are a few animals still trapable. Would I be able to leave my boat at your dock? That's one thing if I trap Taneycomo I don't wanna have to haul it back everyday, since it's such a long drive. Do you have many beaver or muskrats around your area? To make it worthwhile I'd need to trap all 3 animals. How far is mile marker 9 from Powersite Dam? Patrick

I dont see too many boats at night. They would probably scare the stuff out of me if they snuck up behind me while fishing at night. Would be funny though

Very few Beaver and just a few muskrat. Nothing worth trapping anyhow. Just lots of otter, some mink, coon, skunk, possum.

I believe that the miles are counted upstream. So mile nine would be 9 miles from powersite dam.

As far as leaving your boat.....I wouldnt mind if you tied up to it so you can set/check your traps from shore but I cant say I would want anyone docking thier boat for any lengthy time. Sorry.

Ok Trav, I'll find somewhere else to trap then.

Not much bugs me when I'm fishing. Motor boats upstream of the MDC ramp on less than 2 generators bother me in general. When I go fishing, I know I have to share the water. I expect that. If that's with some guy who wants to play fetch with his dog, a couple with rugrats who like to chunk rocks in the water taking a walk, or folks in boats. As long as someone is being thoughtful of others, I have no quarrel. There are some things we just all think are rude because they are: setting up to close to someone else who was there first without getting their permission, lining someone, being unnecessarily loud, littering, fishing illegally, and hitting others (boat, wading, swimming, etc.) with unnecessary wake. The way I see it, if I go to fish downstream of a known float launching point I have no reason to gripe about how many canoes went by. Duh. And...generally speaking...if a boat interrupts my fishing (out of necessity to transit) it will only last for a couple of minutes. I can take a break. No big deal.
