zander
I'll post it here since no one has said it yet, but I'll set up a 529 plan for my son to help with his college expenses. This is not a gift from the gov't to us though. They have made it clear that it is an ADVANCE out of our 2008 refunds. This will most definately be deducted out of our returns next year. Plan ahead for the following year accordingly.
Ham
I don't think we will be getting one. I think they decided to give mine to an illegal alien or someone who never paid taxes in the first place. We have two kids and pay a ton of taxes, but I think there is an income ceiling and we make too much money to "deserve" any of it back. We'll see, but it ain't gonna make me or break me either way. I think I would buy a bow mount hand control TM for the trout boat I'll be buying soon. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Danoinark
Buy some more energy stock. If you can't lick'em, join'em!!! Just what the Govt. doesn't want you to do... They borrowed this money from the Chinese and others and the Govt. wants you to go out and buy some more cheap stuff.... Its beyond me why Economist and even the Govt to a certain extent decries people using credit to make purchases of unneeded items when they are urging you to do the same with the money they borrowed. DOITLOOKIT
This whole thing burns me... giving money away they don't have. And it won't do anything for the economy, esp long range. This is setting a precedent... if you feed the electorate when times get just alittle tight, they'll maul you every time some economists yells "recession!" I'm with you Lilley, everyone in this generation is get it right now. Even my own children expect to start in life where I am after 50 years of hard work and saving for it. Now a days its all about charging it and not saving it. Living beyound you means is the norm today and the government should not be bailing out the consumer or the business who loaned these people money without checking them out. zander
Maybe I'm misunderstanding what I am reading in the article here: http://money.cnn.com/2008/02/08/pf/taxes/r...sion=2008020817 but it says, "Do I have to pay the rebate back? No. And here's why. Your rebate is a one-time tax cut - an advance on a credit you'll receive on your 2008 return." Maybe they are putting in an extra credit for the 2008 season that we will not see if we are getting a credit now. I took that to mean that they are giving us some of our 2008 money now, but maybe they are doing some Enron accounting.
