WEEKEND CRAPPIE

Posting a bit late. Stayed at Orleans Trail. Small get together with some cousins from KC area. Fished sat, sun and monday. Fished for crappie on sat morning with a couple cousins. Had 42 by 11am. No pics of them. Did some walleye fishing after that. No luck. Fish fry that evening !! Wife and i fished sat and sun mornings for crappie. Limits for both days. Pic is of these. Monday afternoon we were driving around looking for a good spot to swim and i ran across i giant boulder or Bus on the graph. Loaded with fish. Had to stop and fish it. Did some vertical jigging with a spoon and caught 21 brownies and a couple spots. Ranged from 10 to 14 inches. Fatter then toads and puking little shads. There were 2-4 other fish following everyone that i reeled in. All the while my wife was at the rear of the boat swimming and having a beer !! One of the best weekends ive ever had on this lake. Hard to believe it happened in late july. Did try fishing with green lights after dark. Not one crappie !! Couple on jigs. Rest on shiners. None on toughies. SHINERS is all i can say !!

Sounds like you had a great weekend catching fish, great job!  We’re the crappie deep?  Thinking of heading up Friday evening to do some night fishing.  Any tips on where to look for crappie at night with a light greatly appreciated.

Still fishing main lake brushpiles. Ones sitting in 25 - 35 ft of water have been best. Most of these have been topping out around 15-20ft deep. Catching most right on top of the BP. If we werent occasionally ticking the brush or getting snagged we werent catching any. Hardly any bites fishing deeper along the sides of the BP. Depending on location we were seeing a thermocline from 20-25 ft deep. As far as night fishing they have me stumped. An example on sat eve we set up on a BP at 7pm. Immediately  started catching fish. Lasted til dark then shut off completely. Put the light out at 8pm hoping the bite would continue on into dark. Fished till 11pm. Not one bite after 9:30pm other then a few cats and drum. With a 100+ fish caught by all of us over three days i think we had 5 or 6 that wouldnt measure !! Opposite of Pomme. Would have to catch a 100 to get a limit !! Good luck with your nite fishing. Wish i could be of more help. See a black, blue and charcoal LOWE tritoon that be Me. Stop and say hey !! Be north of the mile long bridge.

Buy my shiners at a small baitshop in Fairplay. Right on hwy32 as you go thru town. Think its called "Day Sons" They have BIG Leeches too for you walleye guys !! Fair prices on the bait too. They dont count your minnows one by one as alot do !!
