I have to admit I had never heard of the Alabama Rig and after looking it up, it looks like a umbrella rig that is used on Beaver lake to catch whites and stripers. Only difference is the umbrella rig is trolled and not cast.

Arkie also makes one and they can be bought at Wal-Mart.

Put in at Prairie Creek at 9:00am and fished Prairie Creek and Cooze Hollow until 2:00pm. Conditions were Cloudy with a 15 mph wind, Water temp was 47-49 degrees. Found the bass 1/2 back in the coves suspended in 15 FOW on steep gravel banks. Caught them on Lucky craft Springer 100 & Springer 78 clone sold by Jann's Net Craft in the Table Rock Shad Color. To many fish to count but the best 5 were 21 lbs. Best fish was 6 1/2 lbs. This was a personal best on Beaver for me and my partner. If we could only do it in a Tournament.

Fished today from 10:00am until 5:30pm. Water temp was 44 to 49 degrees. Barometric pressure 30.1 and steady. Partly Cloudy with a slight wind out of the North. Fished from the Bridge at Eagle Rock to Viola Boat Ramp in the Kings. The white is clear. The Kings is stained with limbs floating down. Fished for bass everywhere marked on the maps in the Maps section of Table Rock Forum (Thanks to the guys who marked them), and a few places I have found myself. Caught 7 fish total, all short and fat, 6 Kentucky's 14 to 14 3/4 inches. 1 Crappie to small to measure 4 on a 1/4 jig head and zoom single tale smoked with silver flake grub. 1 on a PBJ 1/4 oz football jig with a zoom grn pumpkin trailer. 1 on a Wiggle Wart I painted Brown and Orange. 1 Crappie on a white 1/4 oz spoon All fish were caught on Bluffs Ends where it turned to chunk rock, then pea gravel. The Kentucky's were in the basketball size rocks. Boat was sitting in 30 to 60 fow casting towards the bank let it sink to bottom then slowly reel it in. Not really a bite to speak of, the grub would just feel different/heavy and rod sweep and the fish was hooked up. Had a great time just getting out.

Here is a way to build a simple and alternative to fizzing fish. Materials needed: 1 round plastic laundry basket 1 75 nylon cord 4 4 ounce round lead weights (larger weights work better) Attach the weights equal distances around the top of the laundry basket. Turn the basket upside down and poke a hole through the center of the basket and attach the nylon cord. How to operate: If a fish floats when released cover with the basket and let the basket sink while holding onto the nylon cord.

Hope you don't mind but I am going to piggy back my report on yours. Put in at Holiday Island Marina around 11:00 AM (Be Careful water is so low a number of trailers were falling off the back of the ramp launching/loading). Fished between Holiday Island and a few miles above the town of Beaver. Water temp showed between 43/44 degrees. A lot of people on the water for January but it was a beautiful day. Caught 5 non-keeper Walleye largest 13 inches, 2 largemouth biggest 17 inches, 1 Kentucky 11 inches. Caught all my fish between 1:00 PM and 2:30PM, thought I had them figured out then it stopped just as quick as it started. Boat was sitting in the middle of the channel in 16 to 18 feet of water, casting toward the trees. Actually I didn't figure them out, got to give credit to the guy in the Stratos for catching fish next to me as I trolled by, otherwise I probably would have zeroed for the day. All my fish came on a green pumpkin senko or zoom green pumpkin meathead worm rigged on a drop shot fished from the trees to the middle of the channel.

I agree the Johnny Morris Bait Casters are great, I own four of them.

I have heard it was the lowest bidder, however their Johnny Morris bait caster internals look like a Pfueger Presidential model.

In the fall of 2009 I fished with a guide out of my boat on Bull Shoals. He was a Lowrance follower, but he was impressed with my Hummingbird set up. I run a 788CI on the Bow and 798CI on the console. What impressed him the most was I am able to run both units at the same time without Crosstalk. Since I am not a Lowrance owner you will need to ask if Crosstalk is a problem, if you plan on running 2 units at the same time.

I am not plugging a specific UV product but this past year I started spraying my jerkbaits, crankbaits, jigs, and dipping my worms, in a UV clear coat and worm dip made by another company. I have no scientific data, but I did catch more fish than ever before. I also was able to fish more than ever before so that could be why I caught more.

Just my 2 cents. Due to the unpredictable weather of February (wind, rain, SLEET and SNOW), I would leave the boat at home and spend the money and hire a local guide. There are plenty to choose from.

I have never tried it on the rock, but can so without a doubt it works great on Beaver. Chunk Rock ledges and Bluff Walls is the place to try. My favorite jig colors on Beaver are White with the tip dipped in chartuese on cloudy days and blue on sky blue days.

I went out on the 20th and the water temp at the South side of the Hwy12 bridge was 39 on the East Side and 40/41 on the West side next to the Rock Bluffs. Walls of shad on the locator from 20 fow to 80 fow. The striper guides were there in force, but no one caught any fish while I was there. It looks like a shad die off is starting to happen on the East side.
