  1. I'll chime in. Compare your smaalmouth visions to that of a deer hunters, where as educating the public does more than regulations ever will. Look at all of the deer pics you see anymore. When I started hunting, you saw very gew good bucks killed, and a pile of basket bucks every year. Fast forward 15 years..... most deer pics you see (including youth) are of solid to huge deer, many more mature (3.5+) than younger. It wasnt the regs that did it. (None where I live). It was education and the explosion of hunting popularity.
  2. Good deal, it was pretty stinking rough a few weeks back.
  3. We will have to fish down there together sometime soon!
  4. I put in at Houseman around 11 today, once I decided that the radar looked worse than it was, and ran up. Started fishing just below Spider Creek with midges dropped off of a micro jig about 5' below an indicator. I pretty well stayed on fish all day, more sporadically early and more steady later with the high point being 4 fish on 4 casts. Red, hare and copper and rainbow warrior midges in #16 were all good with a good split coming on the micro jig. Nothing big, but a couple +-14" fish to keep it fun. Awesome day on the river!
  5. Bump $900 firm, thats a screaming deal
  6. Ya i was fishing #12 & #14's on the white and caught the crap out of them. The only thing that I can think is maybe i should have tried 7x, but 6x should have been fine....... Just aggravated that they were so obviously midging, a situation that I love to find because it is one of the easiest games in fly fishing most of the time. Oh well, I will just have to go back and try it again.
  7. The thought did cross my mind, but i was too stubborn to quit trying to force feed them. The most frustrating part was the only other 2 guys fly fishing were hooking up fairly consistently...... something under an indi It should have been easy, but then again I should have tied on a red butt
  8. I have now been to Norfork 2x, and I have struggled both times only to hit the White and have great success. This last weekend i spent a couple of hours before dark fishing below the dam. I picked up 2 brookies in my first 5 drifts and thought it was on. Both came on a #20 wd-40 fished below a #20 zebra (cant remember the color) 6x fluorocarbon. I didnt catch another fish over the next couple hours. Fish were very obviosly midging everywhere, i tried shallower, deeper, color changes, #18's, #20's, a freaking egg pattern for goodness sakes! Should i have gone smaller, bigger, or would 7x have solved my troubles?????? Midge fishing isnt hard but that tailwater got me.....
  9. Ya, it screws down, The plastic is harder than on Thingamabobbers. They have a smaller one which is a really good size, i think its a half inch. I like the bigger one for nymphing deep fast stuff, it holds 2 weighted flys and a chunk of lead really well. Those and pinch on football floats are all I use any more, I HATE toothpicks!
  10. Those are the air-locks, a Tim Rajeff deal. I love them imo the best bobber available......
  11. This should probable go under trout, as it is for 3 different waters, but I love the little red so it goes here. Me and the family left Friday afternoon, heading south to pick up a boat and break it in. Didnt have a chance to fish friday evening so we took it easy at the hotel snd got a little swimming in. Saturday morning found us heading for heber to try to break the boat in right! The fishing was terribly slow, but the boy got to have the honors of being the first to slime the boat. Spent the evening with some family in Heber we dont get to see often and called it a day. Sunday morning brought a nice T-storm in, which delayed the fishing until after 10. I got to take my uncles father-in-law out once the storm passed snd we proceeded to steadily catch 'bows on eggs and micro jigs until mid afternoon. As soon as we loaded the boat, I took off for Norfork to fish. I made camp in record time, wadered up and hit the water. It was tough for a poor fisherman like myself but I did pick up my first AR brookies on #20 wd-40's. I fished streamers from dark until midnight ish with no luck. The next day i put in at Cotter and went to work catching ridiculous numbers. I still had not caught a brown, and in the heat of the day had given up when I stopped at a skinny riffle to wet wade for a bit. I picked up a small cutthroat on a whitetail midge (phone was in the boat ) and got to thinking about not catching that brown early to finish my slam. 10 minutes, and another cutt later I picked up my only brown of the trip!!!!!! Rounding out my first slam completely unexpectedly! I packed up just ahead of the rain and headed home from a crazy fun weekend feeling very blessed with a super cool ending. A few more pics
  12. Just like the title says, its green, has a nice paddle (a good one not a cheap aluminum one). I bought a jet and to be fair with the wife, one of my kayaks goes. They are $1439 new, plus paddle, plus tax. Paddle is a harmony adventure. First $1000 shoot me a pm or reply. Thanks
  13. Dont be a tease, where's the pics?
  14. I actually just got my first 333 in the mail this week. Came on a reel i bought for my 8 wt and appears unfished. No loops is a deal breaker for me though, i dont do nail knots and I dont trust myself to make my own loop (yet)
  15. I have ALMOST bought cabelas prestige/prestige plus lines in the past, but balked because I have had some bad lines in the past and try to stick with the big 3 names in fly lines. Im looking for a couple sink tips and maybe a floater or 2. Has anybody had any experience with cabelas lines?
  16. I like throwing midges with a custom build 8 ft 5 wt but you can't beat a good 9 ft 6 wt on tailwaters....... the can do it all very well. Never know when you will want to throw some lead on and get deep or tie on a t-sculpin for giggles.
  17. That's some sweet action, just caught my first hybrid a couple weeks ago. Crazy good fighters!
  18. Thanks, much better.
  19. He said "hurry up dad this fish is stinking heavy"
  20. Took the boy out for a quick paddle on Shoal Creek below Neosho. Fishing was ok, should have been better, but we had a blast and still managed to get tight more than enough. He got a well deserved nap on the way home!
  21. He's a Cub fan.... wadya expect?
  22. That's good and all, but did you guys catch anything?
  23. That looks like it would be worth checking out for 4 hundo
  24. Check out the w.s. tarpon 100, perfect for small water. Dunno how big you are but my dad is 6 ft 220 lbs and loves mine.....
  25. I have to say Jackson, There is truly no comparison. That said wilderness systems are really good boats for a few hundred less. I had an ascend fs128t and couldn't sell it fast enough ( before I had ever even sat in a jackson) it was slow, heavy, turned like a train on straight tracks, and was terribly put together. I truly believe you get what you pay for in a yak. Check out natives they seem to be Really nice. Good luck.
