[..... I wrecked my truck.] Good Lord, wasn't the same gal from Nevada that tagged us was it????? That 'ding' you saw on my truck ended up being almost 3 grand!
-
Wow! Color? ...............kinda figured most of you guys on here would have your earlier life pictures in black & white!
-
Yes. Good people. (re:J & H ) I've heard nothing either way on the Florida company. Do the research and save some money is my credo. I ended up buying the Premium maps rather than the Platinum. Kinda wish I had bought the Platinum for the extra windows.
-
[yes, i am resigned to having to purchase the platinum maps for another $170] Watch for sales on the plugables. Got mine for $120 @ Cabelas.

[is amazon.com not a storefront?] I think what the good Cap'n is saying is it needs to be a brick & mortar store front.
-
When dealing with on-line guys always ask for the pricing. They can't advertise the lowest price. I tried taking prices into Cabelas and Bass Pro here in Omaha and neither one would budge. The maps that are preloaded on the various units are not 'Premium' or 'Platinum'.

Try these guys too, but call for pricing. I bought a 998combo, love it. Get Hot Maps when you can..... http://www.jandhproducts.com/_e/dept/01-005/Humminbird_Fishfinders.htm

[glitter boats you mean?] I've always wondered why boats have "glitter". Not being a wiseazz by any means but other than pretty was there ever a reason for that? Made it look like a big shiny lure from the depths of the lake??

As I get older I get more cautious. Too many times I've looked at radar, made the call that it won't get bad and regretted that decision. A few years back we were on Leech Lake and headed out for an evening's worth of casual fishing with the wife and kids in my boat and another family in the other boat. No storm warnings, overcast yes, but nothing critical. We had been out for an hour when I thought I heard sirens. Motored out of the cove and looked up the lake and saw a water spout. The clouds rolling our way were ominous. Called my buddy on the radio and told him we were headed back into the cove. It was 5 miles back to the cabins and as fast approaching as the storm was no way was I going to make that run. Just about that time my buddy comes zooming out of the cove on a flat out run for the docks. He wasn't that experienced of a boatsman so I asked him what in the he!! was he doing. No response. He made it half way across and radioed a distress. Everyone in my boat already had their pfd's on and they concurred we had to respond. Rough, scary ride. Everyone in my buddies boat panicked, they got their side of the boat into the rollers and were taking on water by the time we got there. We talked them out of the situation and had them follow us. By the time we got back to the docks the darn storm doubled back and hit again. We made it to the cabins but the wind actually knocked several of them into a racked position. I don't ever want to do that again so this time of the year especially, if storms are even slightly in the forecast I don't go out on the water. Yeah, I know, "Cluck, cluck, Chicken Little."

Kudos Mr. Don. I've watched the board for awhile and that is how we chose our guide for Stockton. It was someone who appeared to give up the info just because he's a good sportsman. However, now having fished with the man I would have to say that is not the case........... Just kidding Bob! There are people who love to fish, me, and there are people who are consumed by it, Bob Bennett, as I'm going to assume most of the guides on the various lakes are. The range of expectations of the various customers you guides have to deal with would drive me crazy.

Del Rio! My parents and younger brothers and sister moved there in 1975 (we were from Sioux City, IA). Mom and dad owned English Village (apartments)in Del Rio for quite awhile. We fished Amistad quite often whenever we flew down. I remember the water being dang near crystal clear. You could see the trees. Is it still that clear?

Do Guides Fish While On A Paid Trip?
Gilly replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in General Angling Discussion
We hired a guide last Tuesday. Once he was comfortable with our skill set he fished. All of the time he was giving pointers about the lake and a few tricks kept getting tossed out all day long. We mostly hired him to get a feel for the lake (Stockton). So much shore line, so little time. That's why we appreciate the reports on here but temper those with reality. I'm not too arrogant to feel like I know everything and I love to learn....time and money well spent, imo. -
Sweet! Trouble sleeping last night motoman? 1:15 is early......or late.

We caught a dozen+ 9 7/8" for every keeper the other day. Make sure you are all of 10" they check closely. Besides, if what we caught the other day is the same as what others are witnessing, next year should be one heck of a year!

W We did Hawker on Monday, only 4 rigs. Roark yesterday very busy.

A social worker stops in to see one of his elderly clients. "Good morning, Mrs. Smith. Thought I'd drop by to see how you're doing." "Well hello, Terry, come on in and we'll have some tea," says Mrs. Smith While sitting there the social worker notices a nice bowl of almonds on the coffee table. "Mind if I have an almond?" "Not at all," says Mrs. Smith. After a few hours the social worker looks at his watch and is alarmed at just how long they've been visiting. "Geez, Mrs. Smith, look at the time. I really need to get going. It's been great talking to you." About that time he notices that he darn near ate all of the almonds. "Good Lord, I ate all of your almonds. I'll replace them next time I stop by." To which Mrs. Smith replys, "Oh don't bother. Ever since I lost my teeth it's all I can do to just lick the chocolate off of them."

Yikes. Being new to the area then from the north Y will be the way to State Park? I heard that Hwy 32 had a bridge being replaced this summer too and would be closed for 4 months.

My family and I are just getting back into fishing. So I'm speaking from many years of past experience not to include the last half dozen. Having said that, on the water it was mostly the pro's or wannabees who were the most intrusive...you might be one of the few exceptions, trav. When shore fishing, again it was the pro's who plopped lures in front of us as we fished from the dock. And in almost every case not a word was spoken they just gave the air of I'm more important than you. Heck I've seen hotspots that you could literally vault from boat to boat. Could be those folks were good friends and there by consensus. And I've also had the "Last time I checked this wasn't a private lake" retort thrown at me from a jet-ski who buzzed between my boat and the bank. I'm glad I'm not that quick to anger although I had fantasies of a flare gun up his rear. So what is proper etiquette? And does that change with the number of boats on the water? The size of the lake? And to those who think the 'nicer' boats are more likely to be rude I'll take exception to that. I have worked hard all of my life. It is time for me to enjoy the fruits of that. However, just because I have a nice boat doesn't mean you should assume I'm rude. Just the opposite. I will probably be the first to nod my head or wave at you. Arrogance cuts both ways. Life's too short to have your britches in a wad.

Sorry about that. Totally blew over the "General Chat" heading until the other day when redbird posted about losing his dog. General chat is buried way down. Too many topic headings. So, did you hear the one about.........
