Awsome pics and great report BH. -
Not near the movement of birds we thought we'd see this morning with the cold front that pushed thru but the boy and I still managed to scratch out a few. Had our shot at 2 limits of birds but that was about it and our superb shooting skills were holding us back . Sat in one cove and after missing our chance at 6 gaddies at about 7am had a lone greenhead come into the spread perfect feet down and back pedaling before the boy had him floating on his back. About a half hour or so later had 3 greenheads come in and give us a fly by and headed to the main channel, gave em a comeback call and that was all it took, U turn and locked right into the spread. 5 shots 2 birds down, just couldn't connect on the 3rd. Sat there for another 2 hours in the sleet and freezing rain and not another bird. Decided to pack it up and check another cove and as we pulled into it about 30 gaddies were setting in it. Decided to throw out a dozen dekes and see if they would filter back in. Sat for an hour and a half and in that time seen only 5 gaddies and one greenhead and managed to only drop one gaddie. Called it a day about 1. Had a good time regardless of the sleet, freezing rain, and few birds.

Been there done that haven't we Nathan . Frustrating to say the least. Bothers me more though about the trash left behind, one of my pet peeves is trash including empty shells. I Understand your not going to find all your empties especially in the brush and grass but it's obvious some people have no respect. Pack it in, pack it out.

Welcome to the duck desert of Mo . I say that half jokingly of course but there's days down here that's about what it feels like. Not much down here to hold ducks for any length of time they'll be here one day and gone the next so if you find em, grind em . If you got it bring it, just depends on what type of hunting you want to do or have access to. Southwest Mo has a wide range of duck hunting from large open water, creeks, rivers, fields, backwaters, flooded fields and timber depending on water levels and rain, ponds, ect. ect.... all within' an hour to 2 hour drive.

Great pics, and congrats on the Pinny. Looking forward to the southzone opening but need to try to fill the freezer with venison before then as I failed to do it last year and still hearing about it from the misses .

Well done yourself BilletHead. I cant sit still either, especially for teal hunting. Past experiences is that it's a quick hunt early usually within the first 1/2 hour of either side of shooting time and then nothing down here. Seems like during teal season when the weathers nice out for mesquitos they get to where their going and just stay there for the day unless their busted up and forced to move on until about 1/2 hour either of sunset.

Was going to sit in the deer stand tonight but got back from town alil later than I was expecting. Haven't had any luck teal hunting this season but than again I hadn't been but a few times as I haven't found any teal around although I've been hearing of a few around but wrote them off as more than likely being woodies as the guys that say they've seen em aren't duck hunters and that's all I've seen on the few hunts I've been on and the scouting I've done. Been keeping an eye on a mud hole slough off the lake that usually holds some birds if there's any around but hadn't seen any on it till this evening when I pulled up to the water. Busted 7 off the water at 6pm so decided to give it ago and see if they'd come back. Get set up and wait it out. double check the sunset time and the book says 7:15pm, couldn't get the weather app to load, bad reception for the net. At 7pm I look towards the lake end of the slough and see teal swimming towards me about 150 yds away taking their sweet time. at 7:10 they make it to about 60 yds and hang up just teasing me. at 7:14 I shouldered the gun, stand up, they jump, I shoot, and dump 2 on the first shot. They don't fly towards me as I had hoped, but not away either, but more of angle back towards the lake, and I was able to squeeze of another shot and drop another. Looked at the time, 7:15. Get back to the truck and find out I had another 4 min's to spare according the weather app for Forsyth . Pic from yesterday mornings hunt

What FnF said . Google Earth is an amazing resource and has made scouting a whole lot more efficient than just driving around blind.

Just wish there were some teal here for the black dawg and I to share it with . Not complaining tho, other than the horse flies, as its been a good morning of birdwatchin'. Had a few woodrows buzz us early, watched a pair of bald eagles fishing for breakfast, had a kingfisher and several killdeer between us and the dekes driving Hailey crazy as well as several egerts and herrons. Also been playing with a gopro mounted to stick just above the waterline in the dekes.

Had a few doves to go to fill today's limit from this morning's hunt. Got to the field and 3 birds on the power line and thought it shouldn't take too long. Birds jump off the line and fly the other way not to be seen again, at least within shooting range. Two hour sit seen 5 doves and a gazillion plus Dragon flies. Don't think I've seen em that thick before. Didn't shoot anything but still a good evening to be out.

Great pics, especially like Moody's pic with the kid and the dog. Sat yesterday evening for a couple hours on Bull and only seen a couple king fishers so decided to dove hunt this morning with a couple buddy's up in Ozark. Managed to get 3 limits between 4 of us so not too bad. Hoping that a few birds move in and stick around next week as i won't be able to take advantage of the cold front this week .

Congrats. Hopefully i'll be able to get some teal hunting in Monday thru Wednesday.

Not the Reelfoot Lake picture but the story on they got the pic and film footage of 300,000 plus ducks on camera at the Claypool Reservoir in 1956 for the wide wide world of sports broadcast is quite interesting for the time. Although that was about 15 years before my time it's pretty interesting on what challenges they over came to get the footage. Today's modern wireless technology it wouldn't of been much of a challenge.

Good read FnF. i'll admit that i've never been much of book reader but one that i have read and did have a hard putting down was Steve Bowman's "Arkansas Duck Hunters Almanac". Lot of cool pics from years past and full of information on the history of duck hunting and calling in Arkansas

Feels good to get out with da black dawg. Haven't seen much to shoot at but a few and there. Have managed to put 15 soaking in a bowl from 3 hunts Just waiting for bacon blankets and the grill.
