  1. I recommend barbless hooks for the Ned. Especially as the water temperature rises and the fish get more active. If you cut or file the barb down, you'll be amazed at how much easier the hook comes out. I have fished Lakes in Canada that are barbless and you rarely lose a fish. I personally use 6 lb fluorocarbon or 15 lb braid with a 6 lb fluoro leader. This help me detect strikes and less deep hooked fish. There is on occasion, when a fish will inhale the little rig and you don't even see the line move.
  2. Hard to believe the trip is over already. Have a safe trip home.
  3. Good report and nine bass! That is the ONLY thing I don't like about the Ned rig. I finally went to cutting off the barbs and have found it's much easier to remove the little rig. I'm convinced that you will rarely lose a fish with barbless as long as you keep a tight line.
  4. I always find it rewarding putting others on fish, especially young kids and first timers. My partner today is a friend from Northern MO. who doesn't get to fish much. I've taken him out for a few hours on three occasions this last week. We fish the mid James from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 last night and my plan was to let him fish the ned and I would throw everything else. That plan worked to perfection as I witnessed him catch five bass with two nice keepers to my one short fish (caught on a Super fluke). I decided I would just fish the little rig til I caught a legal and than return to the kitchen sink. I caught this beauty, 21 inches long on my 2nd cast and like a good boy I put the ned down and return to the sink. Three keepers total with 5 shorts. All caught in 5 to 8 feet of water and most came on secondary points. Both big fish looked completely spawned out.
  5. Great report Dave!!! 63 under these conditions is awesome. I was going to invite you to come up and fish the James with me (to get you away from those tame fish), but we wouldn't catch 63 in three days. Tell the Bride that you're staying a extra week.
  6. Great report and awesome pics!!!!
  7. Good job Dad!!! I'm sure she learned more from you than she would have in school. That smile on her face is pretty special and the memories last forever.
  8. Good report and pictures! Glad you had a great day. When you get time, you can come up on the James and show me how to get-er-done. Mona and I got out for a couple of hours from 5-7 P.M. Caught 10 on the little rig. We caught mostly males with only had 1 legal. It was fun to finally see some action again. At one point I had 5 bass in 7 casts. Now you just need to teach me how to do that with the big girls. Thanks again for the heads. It was my pleasure enjoying breakfast with such a great young man. Your passion for life and our great sport of bass fishing is remarkable.
  9. Good report Dave! I bet it feels good, to be back on the Rock; even with the weather a bit cool.

  11. You are the man, Dave!!! I hear that Ma's is going to be selling your heads with a authentic signed photo and jersey this year. Seriously, Dave has helped sooooo many folks on this site and in this area catch more fish. He, along with many others on this forum are willing to share good honest information that makes this site ONE OF A KIND. A BIG THANKS to all who contribute.
  12. Great report and nice fish too!!!
  13. I was just down to Guntersville a couple of weeks ago. I talked to some locals and they said the frog fishing is unbelievable the last week of Oct. and first week of Nov. The lake gets a ton of pressure, but still produces big bass. They had 2 just under 12 lbs in a tournament, when I was there.
  14. Congrats on a job well done!!!!! It is extremely tough to put two real good days together on the Rock. It sounds like you had them figured out. Thanks for sharing a very good detailed report.
  15. Good video Dave! I would have liked to see conditions a little better and see the results. I see the Pros know how to fish a spinning rod too.
  16. RPS has good valid points, but I love throwing light baits on a spinning reel. If line twist is a concern, try using a #1 sampo ball bearing swivel. I use it when I dropshot, floating worm, and when i fish my swimming worm. The swimming worm rotates 360 degrees, therefore a good quality swivel is a must.
  17. Beautiful Crappies and your precious little girl is a beauty too. That is so special!!!!
  18. Nice fish!!! A lot of guys can't fish that slow. They have to be throwing and cranking. It's tough to slow down, when fishing is real slow.
  19. Yum Yum!!! Good looking Crappie! Nice job!
  20. When you fish the NED, you don't need a big motor!!!! Tell em Dave!!!
  21. Nice fish!!! Techo always told us no fish in Aunts Creek. He musta been spoofing us.
  22. Nice fish and a good looking young man too!! That's the beauty of fishing, not a wrong way to fish a bait. The biggest tip anyone ever gave me, was too ALLOW the fish to tell me what, and how they want it. Several years ago, I watch two guys fishing a jerk bait with a slow steady retrieve, just under the surface. They were just crawling the bait and just whacking them. We've also seen fisherman fishing a wiggle wart very fast and erratic with outstanding success. Just when we think we have a handle on fishing someone comes along with some unorthodox method to catch fish. The wacky worm was another good example. If those Wisconsin farmers had never went to Texas. we never would have come up with that method.
  23. All Great advice!!! If I was a betting man, the NED and the smoke grub will be the deal. The best advice I can give is to hire a Guide for a day and you won't be disappointed. Money very well spent. I have fished the Rock for over 40 years and it still humbles me at times. Plan on fishing from dawn to 10 A.M. for the best bite. These fish can be tough when the sun gets up.
  24. I just bought this one on Ebay. Can't beat the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/321462038970?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
