  1. What is the best grease for boat trailer bearings, and why? What do you use?
  2. Does anyone remember Gadabout Gaddis? The last time I remember seeing anything about him was at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield. They had what appeared to be all of his old television film reels, cameras, some photographs and his fly fishing equipment. I can only remember him fly fishing on his shows.
  3. Is a Yamaha 200 HP HDPI that I'm considering buying with, 500 hours (at least some salt water use) before a new lower unit worth $7000. Runs good now.
  4. I cannot seem to find any recipes for flies that use American Racoon fur. Finn Racoon, which appears to be from Finland or synthetic.( And, I thought Racoons were a uniquely New World animal) is widely available. Is there a downside to using racoon fur for jigs or flies?
  5. Great story. Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of my Dad's fishing stories about smallmouth on The Huzzah. And..... hair jigs and cold water.
  6. Does anyone know if a panoptix livescope can be connected to a big screen tv and give decent resolution?
  7. I am told that the boat of choice in the northwestern pacific states and Alaska is often an aluminum boat, being used in coastal (salt) water and also in the rivers. And the rocks are the deciding reason. I'm thinking, ozark rocks are as difficult as northwestern rocks. So, that is what lead me down this path.
  8. OK, thanks. So that tells me they are disposable across the board. The salt is just too hard on the metals. So, I;m thinking an aluminum boat is also strongly susceptible to corrosion that you would not see in a fresh water only boat.
  9. What should I look for in an aluminum boat that has been used in salt water. A boat that was (suposedly) designed for salt water and the motor. I understand that salt water shortens the life of the motor. By how much? The boat has been stored on a trailer. Is there any where to look on the boat or motor for corrosion or other problems. The trailer?
  10. Thanks for sharing. And, Yes Mike Baker videos are outstanding.
  11. Are you seeing any other species following the shad schools? Walleye, crappie, white bass, catfish?

    Fish roe

What would you compare the taste to?
  13. Thanks folks. I think that tells me what I wanted to know.
  14. So, that is the maneuverability thing. How do they do in the wind with the top down?
  15. I want the good, the bad and the ugly; from anyone who has fished from a pontoon boat enough to have an opinion. If it makes a difference to the discussion, say a Bass Buggy 21. The things I see that would be important to me would be a wide, stable area to stand and fish from. The downside tradeoff might be maneuverability and speed. What do you think?
  16. I am a little surprised there has been no response to your question, unless you've been pm'd. It got me thinking about destination lakes for huge crappie. Where would you go? I found an article on wired2fish.com titled "Top 25 Crappie Fishing Destinations in America". 2 of the top 25 are in Arkansas, Dardanelle and Millwood, according to the 9 experts surveyed. 3 or 4 are in Oklahoma. Reelfoot in Tennessee ranks high as well as Barkley and Kentucky Lake in Kentucky. They ranked Truman Lake 6th. In Texas they still rank Toledo Bend high and Lake Fork as #1. Interestingly, the lake I'm hearing about as THE lake to catch a 3 pound crappie is Lake Weiss in Alabama. A 3 pound crappie is a true trophy fish and I don't believe they are "common" anywhere. Mississippi also has several lakes in the list with 3 pound fish mentioned a lot. The Ft Gibson/Neosho River is very interesting as they say the average size is a pound and a half. That is a great average, if it' not just fluff.
  17. How would a Bay Style boat fair on LOZ, Tablerock or Stockton when it gets rough. Like a Mako or Lowe Bay Boat. They are 18 to 22 ft and would seem to be designed for rougher conditions but good fishability,
  18. What year used Mercury motor can I consider and still have new parts availability? How far back can I go and still get new parts? I have a very old Mercury and only used parts are sometimes available (like junk parts). This is a major problem for me, as I like to get the most out of equipment. Thanks for any help.
  19. How far up lake can you go in a boat with an 8 inch draft with a jackplate with 1 unit flowing?
  20. Last year's marketing plans may have been blown out of the water due to covid. If so, will we see more frequent releases of innovations this year, so Garmin can get it's "roll out" back on schedule?
  21. >Bill's post indicated maybe something was in the "near pipeline", with better angle, distance and resolution than the new LVS34. Planned obsolescence and dribbling out "improved" features is baked in the cake. And at a price point 100 bucks higher than LSV34, may or may not be worth it, but I would like to see it. And sooner, rather than later.
