  1. Nicely done. Next time we all do a float trip, bring that guitar along and you can provide the entertainment. Just nobody think about bringing a banjo along too.
  2. It is those huge profit fossil fuels that are actually lobbying congress with their huge profits that keep us from developing alternative fuels. Once there is no more coal, oil etc, alternative fuels may become the "huge profit" fuels. There are jobs to be created making fuel cells, whether they be solar, wind, hydrogen... We just need to change the attitude of the people and we will see less burning of fossil fuels and eventually a cleaner, greener planet.
  3. I don't live in MO, but the smallmouth issue is one that is felt in every state. I don't believe in keeping any bass unless releasing it would mean certain death anyway, like being gill hooked. If you want meat, eat a bluegill. There are plenty of them around and they taste better anyway. Here in AR, they have the Blue Ribbon streams. Crooked Creek being one of them. There is a 14" limit on smallmouth except for the Kelly's Slab area in which there is an 18" minimum. Personally, I think it should be "catch and release" like on the trout streams, but that is just my opinion. As for slot limits, a 12-16 inch slot probably wouldn't work. A slot limit must be utilized to work and I don't think too many people are interested in harvesting bass under 12 inches. There's no real meat on them at that size. I could be wrong though as some people keep every fish they catch. In that sense, a minimum length limit may not be effective either. In order for any of these regs to work, the MDC must identify quality waters and only then enforce slot limits and length limits. This means that a lot of smaller streams will have just a general regulation. A statewide 14 inch minimum, except for those quality streams, is what I would consider adequate. Almost all streams are capable of producing 14 inch bass and a smallmouth of that size is a nice fighter using proper tackle (not surf rods and 100 lb test line.)
  4. Thanks. I drive 412 from Mountain Home to Rogers and back every week. According to the signs, it's only a few miles up the road from 412. I think I'll have to stop and check it out now.
  5. Ok, so nobody has info on War Eagle Creek at the Hwy 412. Does anybody have any experience fishing at Withrow Springs State Park? I'd like to do some fishing out that way on my way to Rogers this Sunday but I don't want to haul my rods and tackle along for no good reason. Is it worth trying out? Any input would be appreciated.
  6. Here's a link to the USGS website for the Buffalo River near St. Joe. There you will find links to about 6 diffeerent outfitters serving the Buffalo.
  7. Maybe they were dragging a chain.
  8. At first I wasn't going to reply because of your childish "nObama" but I think you need to be enlightend. During the 2000 campaigns, Al Gore told us he was in favor of pursuing tax breaks for industries to invest in alternative fuel sources. Instead, a less than majority of the people, voted for George W. Bush, and the government ended up giving those tax breaks to big oil. As for forcing BP to pay that $20 billion, what would you have said if he said; "Oh, it's ok if you haven't paid anything to the people along the gulf who haven't gotten a penny of the money you promised."? You would be outraged that he'd be letting them off the hook. And the reason they are going after BP to pay the $20 billion is becaue they haven't paid anything to those people down there like they promised they would. As for quitting oil "cold turkey," who said anything of the sort? What has been said is it's time to wake the **** up and get off of the oil dependency. How many more oil spills do we have to survive before we start developing alternative fuels? 50? 100? 5,000? No. It's time has come and as soon as all of us realize that, the better off we will all be. Quit defending the oil company whores and show your support for the environment that you depend upon to hunt and fish.
  9. Right you are. I was just checking to see if anyone was paying attention.
  10. Joe Barton (R-Texas) is also "the House's top recipient of oil industry campaign contributions since 1990." (from the AP) Go figure.
  11. Why are you blaming Clinton for the Exxon Valdez spill? That happened in 1989 when George Bush was president. Clinton wasn't elected until 1990 and didn't take office until 1991. I guess it was a long time ago and you don't remember what happened either.
  12. I'll give you a little room on his dragging his feet on this. But the POTUS does have many other issues to contend with than this oil spill. Plus, we don't know how well informed he was kept about the severity of the spill since BP was lying about the amount being spilled every day. At first they made it out to be only a few thousand gallons a day. Now we are being told it's 2.5 million. As for gathering all the best resources available to fix this, didn't BP do that? Were they not supposed to have a contingency plan? Why did BP drag their feet? Obama sent the Coast Guard and Navy to try to help when it was made clear that this was a MAJOR problem. What other resources does the federal government have to fix this? They aren't in the oil buisness. As for BP actually paying out that $20 Billion, I'll believe that when I hear about people getting their checks. Tonights news had a report of them not getting a single penny of promised money yet and that was promised weeks ago.
  13. This is exactly what I don't get. Obama is a lawyer, not an offshore oil drilling expert. What exactly do you expect him to do? Should he himself be personally responsible for the solution to stopping this spill? If the oil experts can't come up with something, how do you expect a lawyer to? The only thing Obama and any other politician can do is find out who is responsible and attempt to force them to fix it by passing laws to hold them accountable. That is being tried in the congress, but the "Party Of No" keeps blocking any attempt to get anytyhing done while they keep taking donations from the big oil corporations. Don't put the blame for this on Obama. Put the blame where it belongs, on the oil industry.
  14. Certainly not the right to blame Obama for everything from the extinction of the dinosaurs to whats gonna happen in the year 8089.
  15. The Fly Shop has it up on their web page. Mercer's Psycho Prince (click the link above)
  16. Internet? I don't need no stinking internet.
  17. You can have my job, I don't like working anyway. I can trap, fish, hunt and live off the land. Don't need fuel except wood for fire. My ancestors did it for a very long time, and so can I.
  18. I vote for Crooked Creek or the Buffalo River.
  19. I guess if I weren't just a lowly machinist and instead were a physicist or scientist of some sort, I would work on coming up with alternative fuels. We are all dependent on oil, and we admit it. We are just somewhat powerless to come up with other means. And retrofitting an old gas guzzeler is not what I would be worried about. I wouldn't be so selfish as to not want to leave behind a better world for my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren...
  20. Question is, how much more in taxes do you have to pay so congress can give the oil companies tax breaks?
  21. OK. Those core samples also showed that in the last 100 years or so, the temperatures have risen faster than any other time in history. China, Russia, India, Europe, North America. We all live on this planet, and it's the only one we have. If we want to continue living on this planet, we have to do something to help slow that rise in temps. Besides, polution is polution no matter how you look at it. Then again, after December 2012, will we really have to worry about it?
  22. This is exactly why I don't think too much about doing an overnighter on the river. A pop-up storm that was unpredicted, and you're climbing up some steep bank trying to stay alive. We can only hope (and pray) those still missing are ok.
  23. What's up with the OAF dots? I ordered 2 pair online back on 5-21-10 and still haven't received them? Are they still available or what?
  24. The Book of Revelations in the bible tells it all. In the end days, there will be floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. I don't believe in god and all, but one does have to wonder sometimes. Is "global warming" real or is it just cyclic? I guess I won't live long enough to find out for sure. I just think I should do my part to help out those who will.
